Blog commenting for backlinks?

Hi
I've done some research and found a few "dofollow" blogs in my niche.
My question is: Does it count as a backlink everytime i post a comment to a new blog post? or is it just 1 link per blog?

Yes, every comment counts as a new backlink. But diversity is important.

So while 100 backlinks from 1 blog is still 100 backlinks, 100 backlinks from 100 blogs is going to be much more powerful.

    Ok thank you very much.
Will google "find" comments in old posts (few months)? or should i only comment the post newest?

Not enough to worry about. Say if 70% of your backlinks are all pointed to one site from the same IP it might impact you a little. As far as we know Google considers each link as a "vote" and the more votes your site receives the more authority Google will give it.

Now if Google sees your site is receiving a large number of votes but all from one site...

They will think something is up and rank you BELOW your competitor who is receiving the same number of votes, but from many different sites.

Thats about the easiest way I can describe it to you.

I've found it takes Google at least 45 days to index the backlinks I leave in older posts. There are of course methods one can use to get Google to find the comments you posted sooner, but they fall into the "greyhat" area and do not merit being discussed here.

You should always keep track of the URLs you posted your comments to and check them a week or so later to make sure your comment was approved and posted.

I know I was getting pretty upset that Google wasn't indexing a lot of the comments I made, only to check and discover the comments had never actually been posted.

I thought that Google knew from which IP address the backlinks were coming from and therefore multiple comments and backlinks from one blog would appear to come the same IP address.

I would expect Google to slap this down instead of rank it better.

Ideally, back links from pages with good page rank would be a better bet.

Google certainly knows the IP address of the blogs where the backlinks are located on, hence the comments that it is better to get 1 blog comment on 100 different blogs than 100 blog comments on 1 blog. But, I wouldn't worry about Google tracking down the IP of the person (or site) making the link.

If Google penalized for incoming links (except in very rare cases that wouldn't merit discussion), then it would be too easy to slam your competitors sites to get ranked. Matt Cutts has even said as much.

I wouldn't discount the value of nofollow comments too much, though. I gave up on the process of finding dofollow blogs, and just started commenting on blogs that I found interesting. My traffic has risen since I started this process, and I have started getting referrals from lesser known search engines. So, if your readers aren't commenting on blogs because they can't find dofollows in their niche, just go ahead and comment. Some appears to be better than none (at least in my case).
