I always mix this up. Should I use quote or not quote keyword when you want to check your competitor?

Without quotes. The whole quote thing was simply used to narrow down the number of sites for a given keyword but everyone now realizes that you only need to look at the power of the top 10 sites. Who cares if there is 1,000,000,000 pages if they are all PR 1?

Neither. Rather than look at some arbitrary figure of how many sites there are. Look at the top 10. That's your competition if you are serious about this niche. No need to worry about the other sites.

I totally agree. I NEVER look at any of the "allintitle" or any of that stuff because it doesn't reflect whether you can hit page 1.

I look at PR, backlinks, BL anchor text, on page SEO (to see whether the competitors site is actually making any sort of effort at all) and have been pretty successful in hitting page 1, and indeed the top slots too.

That said, I go for some fairly low hanging fruit a lot of the time, but my adsense earnings are pushing towards $100 a day, and Amazon Aff is getting sweet too. Must be doing something right

          Mike,

When you say low hanging fruit, what search volume do you look for in the keywords you target? Do you just target one keyword per site with exact match domain, or a number of keywords per site?

Most of my sites are EMD for the main Kw, but I've built some of them out a fair bit. If you go too tight on the niche like pinkbrasforpigeons.com etc you might have a little more trouble expanding the site, but a little creative thinking can fix that up. I basically started using Xfactors adsense ebook, but have developed my own templates, site navigation methods and add articles and video etc. Sure, I WANT people to click out on my adsense ads, but I give them good content and an easy way off the page if they want to go that way. Sure I may lose a few clicks, but my CTR on the majority of my sites is in the 20-40% range....every day. I'm closing in on the $100 day but this last few days have been a little up and down, althoughugh I have had no genral drop in traffic or rankings as a result of the algo change.....yet. Search volume wise, I used to have this idea that 3000 local exact match searches per month was great for the main page, in fact I have some that get 10-20000 per month. My best site get's 1600 pm for the main KW, although CPC in Spyfu is over $4. I rank No1 and make $20-30 a day off that site alone, other sites, more volume, less CPC - $10-20 a day range. Shame they never all do it on exactly the same day !!! So personally, I will build inner pages on just a few hundred searches per month. But when you have 100 pages up, those numbers really stack up. Hope that helps. Just ask if you want me to explain anything else. I put a lot of consistent work into my sites, but get distracted a lot. Xfactors course is a really great guide, just needs people who will think for themselves a bit :-) Cheers
