BackLinks On Yahoo Answers

Hi folks,

When one answers questions on "yahoo answers", one's links is not featured on the answer page.

It is only on one's profile page that the link is featured.

Does it then imply that unlike forums, you get no backlinks for each and every page of answer you make and only get backlinks on the profile page?

Thanks for your comment

Not true. However, until you reach Level 2 (500 points) your links are not live. Plus the links must be in the form "http://"

The good thing about Yahoo Answers is that the answers and links stay there for years, generating traffic for you all that time. I have links that have providing traffice for a couple of years, even after I've been kicked off.

Now it's against Yahoo Community Guidelines to promote your site in your answers. However, it doesn't hurt to throw in your URL when it is legitimately part of answering the question. I've actually been kicked off three times in the last couple of years (the last just yesterday) because other people see what I am are doing and report me.

So, if you want to try this slightly "black hat" technique, jump in find older quesions (so you won't be discovered as quickly) that have keywords that relate to your site. Answer the questions and include the same keywords. Use your URL in a way that it's part of the answer (after you've reached Level 2). You can then look forward to traffic from Yahoo. I works for me.

Just be aware that your account might get suspended. If you want to try again, change your IP address, name, and email address.

    Thanks Stackman,

What I meant was that signature is not allowed along with posts(answers) unlike in forums.

I now get your point. That is, one should relevantly and as undetectable as possible, incorporate one's URL/keywords/anchor text within the post/answer.

Except one is able to do the above, i guess it would confirm my thought that you do not get a backlink for each answer/post.

Simple answer is no, yahoo answer use nofollow tag. So links from yahoo answers don't count as backlinks. You will need a little traffic from these links.

No such thing as a nofollow tag. It's an attribute, not a tag...

Yahoo answers is nofollow so they are good only for human traffic. Which they could generate if the answer you give is ranked high. If it is given as the "best answer." I've seen these pages pop up on google themselves a lot so they could get you human traffic.

Also, be very careful. They will suspend your account with no explanation. It's difficult to determine what their beef is when they won't explain. I've had 90% of my answers chosen as best answer - and still had the account suspended.

Don't use an account you need for other reasons; i.e., Yahoo Groups, Webmaster Tools, etc.

Tnx for the info. Did you say one should open an account that will not jeopardize everything if it's deactivated or proscribed? How long was the suspension, if I may ask?
