Hello,

I just wanted to see if i am bookmarking my site correctly. Say I write an article and post it to my site. I go to a site like Digg, or use the Clipmark tool, paste in my URL and then a small description and submit it. Is that all there is to it? Should I be doing the same thing for any of my articles that get posted to directories as well as for my hubpages, blogger site etc? I assume the answer is yes. These are the sites I am using:

ClipmarksDiggfaves.com stumble upon reddit
propeller.com
Any others I should be using?

The other main question I have is with regards to backlinks.
How long do they take to show up? I have Market Samurai and it only shows me having 1. But I have set up so far 2 articles in 10 directories, 1 hubpage with 2 hubs with backlinks (my score is sufficient for dofollow), Blogger.com with 2 articles with backlinks and the same for a wordpress.com site. Many have been up for nearly 2 weeks.

My main site is on a self hosted wordpress blog which has been indexed. At least I think is has as I used site:mydomainname in Google and all my web pages showed up. Is this the best way to know if you are indexed and how else can you find if your backlinks? I used:Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch
but it also only shows 1.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I tried to look at the Backlink Watch site. Has it become premium or something?

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

You may wish to note that you should not copy just any text in your content page. For good SEO benefit, you should optimize your content with your keyword phrase that your are trying to rank. So do ensure that your keywords appear in the title, description body text as well as tags provided in order to get this benefit.

Thanks. My url, titles, tags and body all have the keyword phrase in them along with secondary ones in the body. Market Samurai confirms these as all being strong elements of my site.

I use these social bookmarking sites:

    backlfip
    bibsonomy
    blinklist
    clipmarks
    digg
    diigo
    hubpages
    misterwong
    mixx
    propeller
    reddit
    scribd
    squidoo
    stumbleupon
    yahoo

I have a few accounts in each of them and use spreadsheets to plan which accounts to use to bookmark a particular page (having the same pages bookmarked by each of the social bookmarking accounts would look too suspicious - I always try to make everything look as natural as possible).

If you are writing articles you probably should put them on the article directories instead or at least first. You are going to have a tough time ranking for much of anything if the only thing you do is bookmark your site in those six sites.

Once your social bookmark your pages a couple of times you are wasting your time. You need link from a range of different sites as well as different types of sites.

I use spyglass to check links

Backlinks can take awhile to show up, but 2 weeks is plenty of time for them to show up. The best way to determine if your backlinks are giving you benefit is to check and make sure they are indexed with Google. So for example, if the url to your article is: http://www.ezinearticles.com/yourarticle - take that article and search for it on Google. If it shows up, then your backlink is counting.

Also, the site command is the right way to check on your indexed pages. So good job with that. Sounds like you've got a pretty firm start and now it's time for the grind. You're doing plenty of right things so just keep doing it and you'll begin to see results.

You can bookmark your articles/hubs/squidoo lenses/blogger blogs. It won't hurt and it will help to get them indexed if they aren't yet. Basically, just keep updating your blog and keep adding more backlinks. Don't worry too much about checking your stats. Maybe do it once every couple of days or even better a week. I am still working on this myself. I am a statwatcher and I hate it. I always check my stats and it's really unproductive. If I spent that time instead creating more content and more backlinks I would get way more done.

Overall, it sounds like you're on the right track. Keep it up and no matter what don't get discouraged.

      Thanks for the feedback.

Are you saying to take the article title and search for that in Google or should I cut and paste the url and use that in the search? If I understand what you are saying then if I can find my site in Google or any article in Google's search than that site or article etc. is indexed. Is that correct??

Also, you are saying that if I find my article is indexed and it has dofollow links, I can assume it is counting as a link? If so, why do the sites that test for backlinks and Market Samurai only show 1 backlink when I should have easily over 10 from my feeder sites and articles alone (that number is very conservative).

      Thanks again!

You could do either the article title or the url. I prefer to use the url, but either one will suffice. Just make sure to put it in quotes. So your search would be: "My Article Title" or "My Article Url". And yes, if you can find those sites indexed in google they are counting as a backlink.

To answer the question about the backlink searchers... most of them get their data from Yahoo Site Explorer, which is completely separate from Google. So although Yahoo Site Explorer might not be seeing those backlinks yet, if Google has them indexed then they are counting them.

Just my 2 cents... I've never ever ever had any success with bookmarking. (as in making a sale of a product I was marketing)

I highly recommend SocialAdr for bookmarking. It has other people bookmark your site and if you go the free route, you bookmark other peoples sites. You can only bookmark 5 a day but it is real simple. You only have to click one button and it submits it for you. Other people do the same with your bookmarks.

Its slow but steady and it look natural. Like new people are discovering your site. Did I mention it is free?

You are doing everything right. I have found using your method, it takes my site about a week to get indexed but then it shoots high pretty fast.
