Hello forumites, can someone show me how to submit my sitemap to google using xml-sitemaps.com. I have tried doing it but it keeps giving me the red X signal. So a detailed step-by-step guide will be highly appreciated. Thanks

        Hi bianworld,

What tool(s) are you using to create your sitemaps with?

If you are using a blog like Wordpress you can get plugins that create your sitemap for you. Otherwise, there are many free tools that can crawl your website and create a Google compliant sitemap file.

Google webmaster tools is great for verifying that Google is not having any issues reading your file, but all you need to do to let the search engines know about your sitemap is to specify the location and file name within your robots.txt file.

After you create the sitemap using xml-sitemaps copy the contents to a file called sitemap.xml and ftp it to your root folder so it will show up at yourdomainname.com/sitemap.xml. Then submit that url in your google webmaster tools account and away you go.

Create a sitemap using a tool like GSiteCrawler. FTP the sitemap up to your website it will be named something like sitemap.xml. Then submit the site map to your webmaster tools account.

  • I submitted my sitemap twice and never face any such trouble that you are facing. I think the site map doesn't have a correct format. There are many site map creation tools available online.
