Is this killing my seo?

Hello,

I have a self hosted wordpress blog where I am reviewing clickbank products in a certain niche.

My question is as follows. Am I killing my chances of ranking for a keyword by having anchor text for my main keyword phrase while at the same time have anchor text which are the name of the product on the same page?

The reason I do that is because I provide basic info at the top highlighting the website (which has an embedded affiliate link) along with other program info. I then have the review which contains 3 anchored text links of my main keyword phrase, and at the bottom say "click vendor product name (has affiliate link) to learn more.

Is that bad? Should my anchor texts strictly be one keyword phrase per page?

On that note, would it be bad to have 2 different keyword phrases on 1 page each with 1-2 anchored links (all affiliate)? (same point as above I guess)

Finally, I also write articles (submitted to directories after posted to my site) each with my main anchored keyword phrase. Should they all contain only the main keyword phrase I am targetting, or should some articles target other keywords in terms of anchor text, while the majority focus on the main one?
(Obviously my articles each target 5-8 keywords/phrases)

Thanks

You can successfully rank 1 page for multiple keywords, but I would recommend avoiding that if possible.

The best way to go for the type of site your doing is to create a separate post or page for each keyword/product you're reviewing. Then to create logical groups or categories around those posts and pages. The more relevant and targeted each page/post is the easier it will be for you to rank.

Also, this is going to come down to your off-page linking efforts. If you have an aggressive link building plan you can rank one page for many keywords.

You should do on-page what comes most naturally and best serves your visitors, but off-page, when linking to your site, it would be wise to diversify your anchor text a bit, while focusing the majority of your backlink anchor text on your main keyword. There's nothing that signals "unnatural linking behavior" like having all your backlinks with the same anchor text.

      Cheers,

Well put, expanding on that a little bit - make sure you also aren't sending all of your links to your home page. Send some of them to your inner pages with the content you're trying to rank for as well. This will make your backlink portfolio look much more natural and also potentially give you an indented listing in google.
