An Advantage Of making Big High Quality Adsense Site

Hey,

I just thought I would draw attention to something that many advertisers do which effects how much money you make in adsense clicks.

When I advertise on the content network, I monitor where the traffic is coming from and how many leads signups they give me. When I find a site that is sending me converting traffic I increase my bid on that site with a site targetted campaign, so I get more conversions.

Similarly if I get traffic but no conversion I stop traffic from that site.

This means if you build a big site that gets a regular amount of decent traffic and send good quality traffic, at some point down the line advertisers will cotton on and start paying more per click on your site. This just doesnt happen with small 1 page sites as they dont stand out in the reports.

In some cases, really popular sites CPC gets driven up several times higher than other sites on the exact same topic.

This wont happen in every niche, but in competitive niches where the CPC is high (where you should be targetting anyway), there will be a fair share of PPC marketers who know how to play the game.

I'm not sure I follow the logic there re: site size. Why would you think that a bigger site's traffic is of higher quality than a mini-site's traffic? Have you researched this and how big a spread of sample sites are you drawing your conclusions from?

I'd be careful making any sweeping statements about traffic quality like this. I think it has more to do with the search terms people use to find the Adsense publisher who is sending you that traffic than anything to do with the size of the site in question.

If the traffic is good and an Advertiser targets your domain then a large site will give potential for more impressions from that same optimising advertiser.

If that advertiser is targeting your site then their ads attract a higher than average CTR on your site and a higher than average conversion rate. If conversion rate is high they will pay more to advertise on your site.

You can learn a lot about AdSense after having experience with Adwords on the Content Network. Good Image Ads get a higher CTR for starters...

OK, let me clarify my "sweeping statement" for you.

Lets say you make 100 1-2 page micro niche sites for a variety of topics. Overall the traffic generated will be decent, and also the revenue. But on an individual site level the traffic will usually be relatively low compared to say a site with 100 pages all on the same topic.

By creating a big site with lots of pages on the same topic the same ads will come up on most pages. Your traffic per page stats may be lower, but long term it can pay off (not to mention private sponsorships etc.. that a larger site can attract).

Just saying that a little extra time and attention can pay off in long run.

It is entirely possible your micro-niche site may stand out in peoples content network reports anyway, but a bigger site if done right will generate more traffic than a small micro niche site and stand out more.
