When is the next Google page rank update out of curiosity?

Anyone know the time frame? Is it the end of August or before?

I honestly have no idea why people keep leaving thread after thread about a pr update

sure we all thought it would be at the start of this month but it didn't happen, we just have to wait

NOBODY in this forum knows unless Matt Cutts and his web spam team are secret members of this forum and even if they are I don't see them coming here and telling everyone do you?

There is already a thread on this just a few threads down.

I believe the updates have already started as I've had a couple of my own sites change in PR last week.

There can be no exact way to tell this mate. Sorry to disappoint. So just keep your fingers crossed and check your PR toolbar daily

Google is constantly evaluating and updating and evaluating what they deem as PR, typically however they only update the tool bar once per quarter though. The toolbar displays the assigned PR.

If I were you I'd focus more on getting targeted traffic and worry less about pagerank.

    I have a question.

Why do a lot of people put so much importance on PageRank? It has NO EFFECT on your search engine ranking at all.

Let me answer that for you

When you are in competetive markets such as blackjack and poker like me you need to be carefull when looking for link partners just before an update incase a pr5 site on your partners side becomes a pr3

It does not have an effect on ranking if you are one of the chosen.
PR gets you one of the chosen in selected searches. But a
PR0 could outrank a PR6, and so on. For highly competitive niches,
PR matters. It is how sites are chosen to get a look at first. If you
have a higher PR site, it will get first chance at being higher listed
as a lower PR site. But as said, for non-competitive terms, it
is a whole list of other things. Well, even for competitive terms there
        are a whole lot more.

Here's an example of how it should work. Look at the state contestants
for the Miss America pageant. There are 50 + a few territories chosen
to compete. From that, the winner is chosen. It did not matter who
out ranked who until the finals. But you did have to be in on that group
of 50. In others words, that's how PR works. It gives a group to be chosen
from. The 3rd runner up in California would never win Miss America because
she is not in the final 50. Think of the group of 50 as PR3 or above, 3rd runner up
in CA as PR 2 or lower.

    Page Rank update has started.

Tracked 8+ websites with large change in PR.

Not a big update though ASAIK.

I had a few websites which jumped in ranking yesterday. One was for a keyword term which was google dancing at around page 20 for a few months plus, and then jumped to bottom of page one.

I just started a new thread thinking this jump in ranking could be due to personalised search results in Google.

Thank you for that info, this update may be the cause then.

Can someone tell me why this question keep coming up? Why the hell do we care? It makes so little difference to a site that it is basically not relevant.

I would think that people would be more worried about their position in the SERP. That will affect your traffic and thus income. PR has no effect on how much money you will make, and little effect on your SERP ranking. So, why does anyone care. I would love to know the answer to this question. I would love to know what I am missing.

My search rankings (SERPS) jumped for certain keywords. Like you say, I too don't care about the page rank of pages. Did anyone else have rises in their SERPS for keyword phases?

I'm not sure why you keep saying that Tim. I see you repeat it over and over in post after post:rolleyes:

For an individual site's SERP rankings? I agree with you.

      But, what about:

      (1) what if you want to use your sites as backlink workhorses for your other sites? I can't be the only one that does that.

      (2) maybe we want to sell/flip the site?

      (3) maybe we want to sell links on the site?

There are many valid reasons why PR does matter.

Now, to the OP, no one on here can tell you when the next PR update will be. You just have to wait and be surprised like everyone else.

The reason I asked it multiple times is that I have not seen it answered yet. Maybe it was, but I never saw it. I typically go back and check the threads I comment on to see if there were any responses, but I might have missed the answer if it was given. I finally got some kind of answer, and your answer gave me a little insight into the thinking. I have to believe that there is more to it than that though.

        But thanks for your answer.
