Buying an expired domain?

Hi guys, I found an expired domain that I really like. It was registered in June 2009 and it expired last month. I really want this domain but as some of you might know, to buy an expired domain from godaddy auctions you have to pay some extra costs (renewal and some other fees). So my question is, should I wait for the domain to drop or should I buy the expired domain? would a 1 yr old domain help me with SEO in any way?

Thank you!

If it goes to a godad auction and gets a bid it WONT drop and you better bid to own it...if no bids either during the first few days and then after the fire sale if no bids it will drop but you still could lose it to drop catchers. Best bet is if you want it bid to own it and dont take a chance

I'd just wait for it to drop, personally, or, if you want it now and don't want to risk somebody else getting it, buy it. I would, however, research the domain's history. Why? It might have been used for something potentially bad... in which case you'd be buying something potentially worthless.

Also, there's no particular benefit to buying older, used domain names unless they have a ton of legitimate backlinks and aren't penalized somehow.

Thank you, DNChamp and HunterSnake. I think I'll just wait for it to drop.
