Website Overlay and its effect SEO effect

Hi everyone,

I'd like to ask a question about overlay. Here's the thing: we were thinking of putting a website overlay on our FAQ page and that overlay will occur when one clicks the specific question. The answer to that question in our FAQ will be in some form of an overlay..

My question is, is this harmful for the SEO of our site. I know that SEO is overrated or whatnot and we should always just focus on branding and creating a good product but this is just a current debate right now in our company.

In general, an overlay is a javascript right? and a javascript is almost uncrawlable by search engines right? So is it advisable not to just use javascript and in our case, overlay?

Let me know and thanks in advance.

Well there are ways to do it with CSS where the text would be hidden to the viewer until they clicked to explode the overlay. You'll have to look around, but I'm sure something in JQuery could handle it. One site I frequent for ideas on this kind of thing is Webappers. But no, it is not all about SEO. If your users love your site, google will figure that out too.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.
