How often does Google index backlinks?

Was curious how often you can expect to see backlinks or possible changes in keyword positions? I did a lot of work on SEO and on a high competition keyword I was able to go from page 8 to page 2 it seemed like overnight.

My problem now is that this last week I have been adding some high PR back links and they are not showing up in any backlink tools and my page rank position hasn't changed. It's been probably 4 days now and I haven't seen any of my work show up.

Is this normal? Am I just being impatient?

Thanks

How often does Google index backlinks?
Anywhere to a couple of days, to never.

Some of it has to do with the age of the site with the link, if google found the page, site reputation,,,,,.

As an example - on a certain forum I have around 550 post with signature links. The forum has about 75,000 threads, but only about 2,500 indexed pages with google. That means the forum has about 72,500 threads that have not been indexed. If you have a link in one of those 72,500 threads, its unlikley to be found. The forum is rather old, maybe 6+ years. But the owner has done almost no SEO, and the site has almost no deep links.

On mixx.com however, I can post a link and its listed in my google webmaster tools in a matter of days.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will be patient and wait. I would expect that the high page rank ones will go through but I may not see the ones I posted to forums.

I would not recommend to be patient and wait. Rather, work on building even more backlinks and more content.

Focusing too much on getting instant recognition of work you do is a time waster. Rather keep building content that you think will improve your business, and build links to that.

Most of your online work will be credited over time, and the more work you do, the more work will be credited.

You should read through the google webmaster guidelines on "Link schemes"

Link schemes - Webmaster Tools Help

      * Links intended to manipulate PageRank
      * Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
      * Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
      * Buying or selling links that pass PageRank
Does the bought link pass page rank? If it does, yes, google might ban you, or it might hurt your rankings in the search engines.

Is the site related to your sites topic? If its not, google might give you a penalty.

Before you go around buying links, you really need to understand googles stance on the issue. Read through the webmaster guidleines and go from there.

Some backlinks can be indexed in a matter of minutes, while others may take months..It all depends on how quickly pages are being spidered.

Yes i agree Google index backlinks as in hours to never... And let us not just wait for our backlinks to show up, just continue building backlinks and eventually (hopefully, all of them) will show up! :-)

I'm going to go a step further here and say anywhere from seconds to never. I've seen Google index a new page in less then 30 seconds before.

Backlinks are great, but not all links are equal. You must concentrate on quality links, not quantity. Get links to sites that are somehow related to you, not only to ask webmasters to link spam. Googles search algorithms, which means the structure and content of relevance to spend time creating high-quality connections. What type of indexing to update the site plan / s when making changes and keep the content fresh and - wait for it - matter.

It really depends on how strong the backlink is from a link juice point of view. Yahoo picks up links quicker, than most search engines.

I would suggest you using Google webmaster tools to keep track of all links coming to your website from different resources.

Spend time in searching those sites who have good PR and after that try to earn backlink through it. It will work for your website.

Frustrating isn't it? Almonst none of my backlinks have shown up. zilch. zero. nada. I quite worrying about it though because I went from position #190 to position #27 in a month, so figured although I couldnt see them, google must be accounting for them.

mixx.com seems to be currently not working so I suppose it won't be that quick to show up. The best way is to just carry on building good links and assuming they are good they are more likley to be found and counted quickly.
