I noticed that Yahoo Answers ranks really well and is hard to take out even if you have quite a few backlinks. I know they have high PR but there is only one paragraph or so of content and usually has no backlinks ... ??????

Yahoo Answers, even though one specific thread is ranking, you must realize the thread is on an authority domain. Anything that comes out under their domain will take prevalence over other domains in the search engines because they have built up such a big rep and web presence.

I would be more than happy to give you some suggestions if you wanted to include the keyword you are talking about.

This is why getting into the yahoo directory helps your website so much. Sure its 300 bucks a year but there domain authority is so high. Its not just that page thats getting indexed, yahoo answers consists of hundreds of pages of content.

I agree with Brad Callen here

In addition, make sure you have all the right setup within your page you are trying to rank for. The content, keyword density and anchor backlinks pointing to that page. Sooner or later, Google will find out your site is more relevant to the searched term than the yahoo answers post. That's what I used to outrank yahoo answers on few searched terms.

Sometimes the links in Yahoo Answers will get indexed like regular ol' links. So you may want to jump on those questions right away and push your site when it is applicable. Don't be spammy though!

Yahoo answer is ranked high in search engines even without good quality contents because it owned by Yahoo and it has many backlinks from other products of Yahoo. Ans about its effect on ranking your website, i doubt that it still works for you.
