Optimal number of blog posts for SEO?

What do you think? How many posts are really necessary? One a day? Several a day? Several a week? Some people claim that adding multiple blog posts every day is a good SEO "trick". I have seen some blogs with PR3 and up that add many posts daily. To me, this looks unnatural (unless it is a huge site with many different contributors) and even spammy.

My thinking is that, since I have limited time available and my internet marketing attempts are a hobby, and a personal experiment (that I obviously hope will pay off), I am better off equally dividing my time between working on content for my site and content for other sites (for backlinks). For instance, if I have the time to write four articles in one day, two should go on my blog, and two on other sites.

Is this way of thinking flawed?

One of the objects of SEO is build a user base. You want people to come back and read more. Giving people new content when they visit helps them start to become a regular on your site. I believe google can tell if you have achieved this goal (having regular users), so the best way is to talk to people, and get them involved in your site, and find out how to get them to come back repeatedly. Get that part right, and your seo efforts will not be wasted.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

One of the biggest secrets of traffic that almost no one talks about is content.

One of my sites is a PR3 and receives 300 uniques per day.

The only thing that drives this site is new content everyday.

Usually 20 or 30 posts. They are all done automatically through a UAW plugin.

This won't work for everyone, it depends on what your site is set up to accomplish.

But the point is that just by posting content and some initial social bookmarking (not very much) you can receive some good traffic.

If you want to kick it up to say a 1000 uniques per day then you can build some serious backlinks.

      Best,

      Scott

I think you have the right idea. Divide up your time as both things are important.
Some people pick specific days to do certain things. Others do as you suggest and split up their day.

In a slow time there is nothing wrong with writing a bunch of posts and then scheduling them for future release. This comes in handy on days you feel like writing but don't want to post too much at one time on your site.

    my 2 cents

It doesn't make any difference how often you post. In fact, it's kind of silly to worry about if you think about it. If you had an ecommerce site would you worry about posting 10000 pages in a day if that's how many products you're selling? Would that be "spammy"?

No! I am talking about blogs specifically, but I see your point!

The CMS (Content Management System) behind the site really doesn't matter unless it's a known BH CMS like YACG or one that Google has it in for like BANS.

What I'm getting at is that it isn't unusual to load up a new site with 100's of pages of content right from the start. I've done this for several business clients as well as my own sites. In most cases, the CMS is WordPress although sometimes it's ASP.NET or a custom PHP script.

    Hi,

I don't think there is any thumb rule to have number of posts for SEO. Just keep continue what ever you doing to get better ranking and traffic.

Try to aim for quality posts rather than quantity. By quality I mean finding higher PR blogs and then commenting properly and on-topic.

Comments on my blog are moderated both automatically and manually. Automatic moderation deletes many comments each day so those commenters (many are probably bots) are just wasting their (and my) time.
