How much can you make off one website with Adsense

Hi All,

I am fairly new to internet marketing and I am getting ready to launch my first real site. I launched one test site a while back but did not put much effort into it. Anyway this site will be pretty much all adsense with maybe a couple of banner ads here and there.

Anyway I have put about 3 months into building this site, and several thousand dollars to make it look good. I have hired a SEO company to keep me near the top of Google, and Yahoo. I plan to do a little article marketing myself and have a lot of Big Mike's products I am going to try out.

If you can build the traffic how much can one adsense site make? I have read X-Factor's stuff and decided I would rather spend my time on one really good site than build lots of little sites.

What should be expectations be??

Its a good idea building a large content based site.

It depends on a lot of different factors, like how many keywords your targeting and what the average CPC is. Some sites can make 5k+ per month others $2-$3 a day.

I remember reading one time some kind of case study (by google) where they highlighted some of the websites that carry their ads and there was one in the dog niche that makes $300 a day.

Of course, it's an old established authority site that has tons of pages but I be the person that started it never thought they would be raking in that kind of money!

They rank in the top 3 for most dog breed related searches I think they get over 1 million visitors a day or something crazy like that.

I'm sure there are sites that make much more than that too.

Best of luck. I have an authority site I'm working on. I'm not outsourcing a thing. I've done all content production, wordpress tweaking, and I also plan on getting Incansoft's products to help with the traffic. But I can tell you, I've done all aspects but the traffic at this point, and without that, there is ZERO money. So make sure you spend as much effort there as you are with the rest of it. You sound like you are doing a phenomenal job. I hope you have a good paying niche, and you'll be set!

Why have you spent 7k on your first real site without even testing the water ? IMHO that is not a good business plan you should always test before spending big money like that in off line and online business.

I have done 2 other sites but they were more niche marketing and as I said before I really could not get into it. I really want to do site I can through my heart into. I figure you will always do better with something you love than something you doing for the quick buck.

I have done some planning on this and I am not going in blind, but I can certainly understand your point of view.

To make money from adsense that you could not work anymore you would need a big time site (50k hits a day or so)

I think it is important to take into account the subject matter of the site as well. I have had a site for 7 years make $175 average every month on AdSense and it is due to the subject matter that only gets maybe 0.06 to 0.25 a click on the associated AdWords Ads.

If I had the same site with the same 30-40 clciks a day, but the site was about Credit Cards or Mortgage Loans I would be alot happier!

I've never made even that much money on a site. I have made a couple of site that each do about $30 a month. neither of these site did I ever do anything beyond putting them up. With my current site I have spent many hours day fine tuning and creating content. I am hoping that will make the difference.

Well I do have to admit that is my one and only really profitable site... but I am glad you mentioned about your experience. I do have 4 or 5 other sites that to me are the emptiest, unfinished, 3 or 4 page site i have ever forgotten about yet I still make $10-$15/mo off of 2-5 clicks. That subject matter has to do with cars and repairs.

The main website subject matter is... ready? "Inmate Pen Pals" yeah well I started that website myself back when I wanted to have a reason to learn some web database stuff. So.... in 7 years it has paid me well to teach myself how to do some ASP and Online Database connectivity. Approx $1,800 a year x 7.

I can't believe you've just spent several thousands of dollars making your site pretty and are asking these questions now?

    Stop and think.

You need to work your butt off at first and spent minimal money and TEST to see if your site is going to make money and whether it's worth investing such a substantial amount.

    You're doing everything backwards.

I sense disaster but I sure hope not.

It may be a very expensive lesson you will learn, but we have all been through slightly similar situations.

So true, get your site getting some traffic first and then start to monetize and if it works optimize for conversions - its tempting to concentrate on the prettyness first but that can come later. Niche testing is vitally important.

        I agree.

I am all about looking professional and 'pretty' for sites that are my business sites. In other words they are sites that IM is not the main reason for their existence. BUT...

Now that I am entering in to the IM world, I am relieved with the feeling that I don't care if the site looks cheap or crappy as long as I see a click here and there I know it is working and I can look at site statistics for traffic or AdSense impressions to see what's happening.

From there then I might look at making it look more like a reputable site with more content, articles, pretty images to look at etc.

There are too many variables here. Like for instance my IT related sites get VAST traffic. But CTR's are very low indeed. I use them for marketing my own software, but AdSense income from them is tiny.

The website I am making is going to be event oriented. In addition to adsense I will also be selling concert tickets, movie tickets, and other event tickets. So the revenue will not be just from adsense. I am also putting in one focused affiliate link per page to round it out.

While I understand the idea of testing it I am not quite sure how I could have done that with this site. I have done quite a bit of business planning. I am also prepared to have this site be a very expensive lesson, but I am hoping it won't be.

One thing that I should be clear about is I am not expecting to be making money off this site right away. I am thinking long term and hope to be breaking even on the site in 8 to 12 months.

I plan on running this like a business. I will work on the site everyday building content and backlinks, and refining it as needed. Hopefully in the end it will pay off, and if not I will probably have learned enough to do it better the next time.

You can make from $0.01 cent a day to thousands... I don't see why your looking for a number when theirs websites making any of these amounts a day.

I don't see how you could have spent several thousands on the website but I guess your not going for a simple wordpress blog... Seems a lot of early investment though.
