for almost 2 weeks before they or i knew about it. it was brute force protection software that did it.

They said they were sorry and unbanned it, i said it was fine they were only trying to protect the server. it was automatic, they didn't know it had happened.

i am afraid that yes it did harm my site's ranking, we lost our top spot for our main keyword and slipped way down for that and everything else. do you think that was the reason?

google has had access once again ever since 2 days ago when it got straightened out. they are on the site a lot now like they are making up for lost time. do you think i can recover and how long would you think it will take?

    Yes you can definitely recover. How long it will take will depend on you and the efforts you put into your site, there is no exact answer to that.

    Groovystar,

    Didn't you post about a loss of membership a while back. Did things turn around? They must have. What helped?

    Well, our site's been up and down since we moved. Nothing seems certain so I just work at it each day. Currently we seem to be on the upswing again but again it's been just up and down constantly, which is weird, back when we were free hosted on Proboards, we never had this.

    The host's actually a very GOOD host--they install all this hacker-protection software for you, they have excellent customer service and the slower speed you see on my site isn't their fault at all--they're a fast host. {We're working on the code problems and preparing to upgrade} IGXhost is their name and I highly recommend them if you want to build a large, busy site like a big forum. They are pricey but worth it, at least, I have had good experience with them. Their customer service is VERY good. {No I'm not an affiliate XD}

    The brute force protection software apparently picked up that Google was visiting our site a lot more for some reason and auto-banned it. Nobody knew. I saw us first failing to rise any higher in SERPs and then slowly falling, I figured though it was just google being google, and didn't do anything, but finally I started to notice, something was just not right. google hadn't been listed as crawling our site since the 15th of this month and finally I went over to webmaster tools and ran a fetch as googlebot test. When it failed and told me site was unreachable, I tried a robots-restricted file just to test against it, it returned a different error, denied by robots so I knew there was something wrong. I had no idea what, so I went to the host and asked. I didn't expect them to have any idea anyway but to my surprise they said Hold on, lemme look, and sure enough they found the ban and lifted it. Now Google is sure making up for lost time appearig like 2 or 3 times a day on my site!

    I've added a few PR 2 to 4 links on relevant sites to try and get them to remember us and boost us back up.

    @Groovystar

    Please hit me up on AIM/ICQ and I'll be more than glad to help you configure a few things to prevent this from ever happening again. It's a common problem, easy to fix with a few settings here and there to keep Googlebot from going nuts.

    Oh, they fixed it for me, they whitelisted the IPs to make sure they never get banned again. It was my host's server's software not anything on my CP for my site.

    Thanks!! My main problem is that so far, despite adding new links, my site is not moving back up, at all. It's been 3 days.
