I use text ads - pretty and clever banner ads often get lost in the layout of the blog or page your ads are placed on

I recently switched from the images to just text ads, someone on our forum reported a redirect was happening to them, turned out to be nothing to do with us but I got nervous and just switched to text only ads anyway to be super safe. I thought our clicks would plummet but to my surprise they stayed about the same.

It entirely depends on what you are selling or promoting. I personally prefer image ads - particularly if it is physical products you are selling. With image ads though you need to make sure that you don't do a half arsed design when you are making them. Make them in every size Google allows (8 or 9) I think and if possible, create 2 different sets of image ads that are easy to split test. In my opinion you should try both text and image ads though & see how your CTR and ultimately, conversions differ. In my opinion though you're conversion rate should be pretty similar because it is will be the same page you are landing your customers on. Of course with an image ad you can give the customer a visual idea of what to expect when they land on your page so if they don't like what they see on the image then hopefully they won't click through to the site only to bounce off straight away and vice versa. So in reality it shouldn't have a huge impact on conversions but i would think that you might see a very small increase with images.

Hmm I've asked this question on a couple on different forums. And the vote is text wins over banner ads. Very interesting, since its my first time playing around with the content network. I'll start with text till I master it and work my way to banners. Then I can split test both.

Good advice here. I think he is spot on and the general consensus is that basic ads will convert higher on a regular basis. If you get into image ads and specific industries the content network can work well especially if you research and are selective with placement.

If the text ads speaks to your target audience well, then its a way to go.

The content network and image ads are a deadly combination if you take the time to optimise your campaign.

Split test pretty graphical banner ads against ugly (blue text, big red arrows, red border) and you will be amazed at what CTR you can get. My last campaign had a ctr of 7+% on the content network. This gave me some very cheap bids. The clickers were converting at 40% too (opt in list).

Hey Fraggler, are you saying that ugly banner ads convert better than pretty banners?

This is killer stuff... I plan to use Speedppc with my content network ads. Although I've never used my Speedppc b4. I get kinda lost when I get to the ''ads'' area when building my campaign on speedppc. Because I'm using over 2000 keywords.
