I have only recently found out what an advantage it is to own an EMD (Exact Match Domain). I have been able to get on the first page of G with some pretty competitive keywords for the EMD ... anyone else?

EMD are a god send if i can find one absolutly but so many folks here on WF will argue that their not so special but i just keep trying to find them none the less and when i do its only a matter of a few backlinks and its page one ! Just like the guys who simply will not have it that EDU links are more powerful than .coms i hear them just like i hear them about EMDs but everytime i send out a batch of EDU backlinks the jumps in the serps are really really big so i keep doing it lol.

I am going to refer people to this post. So many people believe it doesn't influence rankings very much and being in SERPs a lot lately, I see "EMD" sites with immature back link profiles, and ages outranking the older ones.

Was it on a big traffic producing kw? Competition fierce?

I only recently picked up two EMDs myself the other night for some simple 2-3 page sites with some content and adsense links. I obviously need to also create some reputable backlinks next.

My question to you would be the sites you have done that were EMDs... how much content did the sites have? Small <5 page sites or did they have a larger sitemap with lots of content?

No kidding? Well, I think I should lauch my two EMD websites ASAP, before big G slap EMD domain websites.

    What if it is almost-EMD?

What if it has a number or additional word in the domain? Will it still have the same effect?

    EMDs are super powerful!

On countless occasions I have registered an EMD and had it top page for competitive and non competitive keywords alike within a week.

Even EMDs with "Stop" words are powerful.

This also means, that regardless of keyword, you can find an EMD, whether you have to use a stop word or not, they still hold super weight!

You only have to look at every major Clickbank product outside of IM, check out the major keywords relating to that product, and look on the top page. You will always see at least 1 EMD guaranteed!

for example if I use "the" as the stop word in the domain..so it would be "theEXACTKEYWORD.com" , so it would be as much powerful as EMD?

No, it won't be as much powerful as EMD.

YouTube - How important is it to have keywords in a domain name?

For sure having an exact match domain is still pretty powerful but according
to Matt Cutts they're going to take away some of the power that EMDs
          have.

I doubt EMDs will ever completely lose their ranking power but I don't
see them being as powerful as they were before.

          Will

No, it won't be as powerful for obvious reasons but if all exact match EMDs are gone, this is what I would do rather than hyphenating it, and I am seeing awesome results!

One of the last sites I built and optimised used the word "THE" at the beginning of the domain and is now sat #4 on Google for the keyword I was targeting with hardly any backlinking! ; )

I love EMD's. Though I usually go after low / moderate competition keywords & phrases. If you do your research and properly optimize your site it's not hard to get EMD's to rank well.

EMD is not the only thing that will help you get page 1 ranking but it is a factor. How big? It would depend on who you're talking to. But all things being equal, having a EMD gives you more leverage.

    Oh yeah.

    EMDs all the way.

    Definitely.

Google is still ranking them highly and they still will in the future.

    EMDs are here to stay.

I had an EMD one time that put my site above the Adwords Ads (wtf?)!

I agree, very nice to get an EMD, for low competition keywords you will be on the first or second page right out of the gates! I just started a website that made $5 from adsense the second day it was online! that was only a few days ago and I have already made $16 from the site with only $5 worth of linkbuilding from fiverr
