A (very) long time lurker here and I'd like to thank you all for the IM education you are giving me. When I am I feel confident enough to think I am being of assistance I will pass on any knowledge & experience in the hope it will help other marketers.

In the meantime I would appreciate some advice. I have ten PR5 & PR6 blogs that have consistently accepted my comments in my niche. They post very frequently so it is easy to regularly post comments and gain backlinks from these quite high authority sites.

Would it be a particularly worthwhile use of my time seeking out other sites upon to comment? Or, would it be best to stick with the blogs I have knowing that in half an hour per day I can quickly gain good quality backlinks in my niche?

The search engines uses IP address or so determine the number of sites that link to you. it is best to spread your link building to many different sites. One strategy that i have found effective is article marketing. Apart from the link you get from the directory other people can also publish your article on their blog or site which gives you additional link as well as creating that possibility to link to several sites.

He's right about the IP addresses.

You may have 1,000 comments on each of the 10 the blogs all pointing back to your site, but in terms of the search engines you'll only be given link juice for 10 links.

What you can do is start deep linking to content pages on your blog with targeted anchor text to help them get rank, but definitely seek out other high PR sources for links:

    Article Marketing
    Forum Marketing
    High PR Profile Links
    Social Bookmarking
    Video Marketing
    Guest Blogging
    Web 2.0 Content Sharing Sites
    etc..

    Hope this helps.

This is great advice, get a mixture and variety of links rather than just 1-2 types of backlinks.

John is correct, you want to mix it up a bit and spread your backlinks around via other means such as forums, articles, web 2.0 areas etc.

That is great advice, many thanks.
Is it best just comment on those existing blogs sparingly then? Or link to different pages and posts on my site when commenting
I will then continue to seek out new opportunities too. All the best.

I'd just like to point out that it's not just about links between sites, but links between pages. Although you will want to diversify and get links from other sites you'd also see benefit from getting deeplinks to different internal pages on your site from each of the blogs where you already comment.
