Your site is obviously well optimised for the mobile search engines.

Here are some guidelines in ranking well on mobiles:
    • Keep your content short
    • Create short, custom titles
    • Develop Mobile SEO Easy Scroll Pages
There are new doc types available to place on your pages specifically for cell phone optimized pages so your site must have been designed with this in mind.

As to why your sites sitting number 1 may be because your site is more optimised for the mobile search engine than your competitors.

Have the opposite problem myself. I rank in the top 10 but in mobile I am on page 2. Can I ask what you did to optimize your site for mobile users?

      Thanks!

I've seen similar results for some of my sites as well. Unfortunately, I have no idea why the same site would rank better or worse on the different versions of google.

Based on the results, I assume that the google mobile search has it's own data center(s) and results are reflected the same way that a site can rank differently based on where you are searching from globally or even in different parts of the US.

I'm guessing that this would also mean that the algorithm for mobile search isn't the same as it is for web search and they are taking different criteria into account or placing higher/lower priority on certain things when they tally up the SERP score.

It may depend on your network.

I'm on T-Mobile and O2 here in the UK and it gets routed via Spain so maybe thats one of the reasons. You may be experiencing something similar.
