PR of page vs relevance

Hi,

I use MS and it has a nice feature which I love of checking the PR backlinks of any URL.

I was wondering how this would go up against the relevance of that page to your subject?

I am reading and hearing more and more that google considers the relevance quite important.

Links pass 4 kinds of values:
    -- topical relevance
    -- trust
    -- Google Page Rank
    -- geographical relevance

All 4 have value and can be had via links.

i didn't know that geographical relevance has also impact on links. Is the extension name of a domain is the one that consider in determining the geographical of link? Like .co.uk, .com.ph and many more.

That's exactly the point. For example, if you want to rank in goole.co.uk, you need links from .co.uk/.ac/uk sites and/or sites hosted in Great Britain.

Curiously, this is why SEOs specialize in particular regions. I do the US and the UK because I have access to quality site/links that match these criteria, but I would hesitate taking on, say, a Russian or French site (although I know those languages), unless it were only a question of on-site SEO.

Obviously different people have different views on this, but my experience has been the exact opposite of this. Terry Kyle and I provide SEO/linking services to many individuals/companies seeking to ranking in a local Google.

We get the sites to rank well, often the #1 spot in the local google (most commonly google.ca, google.co.uk or google.au, but we have also dealt with google espana, google italy and google south africa), with zero links coming in from sites with the local domain extension. We do have c-class hosting for the domains we own so the domain IPs are spread around the world with respect to hosting, although we certainly don't have hosting in CA, AU, spain, italy or south africa.

All that has mattered is that in Google webmaster tools the site owner tells google that they want their site to rank for that locale. If I send a PR5 anchored link on a .com domain, hosted in Alabama, it is going to help a site rank in google.co.uk for their desired term (assuming their webmaster tools are set properly).

I would think that depends on the language your site is in, as well as is it about a subject that is geographically related to a given place?
