Pages from my site de-indexed? Banned?

Hey all,

I have a site ranking on google for a primary keyword - this remains unchanged.

But I also had some sub-pages of this site ranking 1st page for some secondary keywords which it seems have been completely de-indexed by google for some reason. I know this because when i search the exact URL of the page it does not come up in the results.

The only SEO i have been doing of late is social bookmarking of my site's backlinks... particularly the backlinks of the de-indexed pages.. but i dont see how this could have played a role..

There is also a blog which contains articles and a link to my sales site on my front page... maybe google is seeing this as a multiple entry page?

Any ideas?

mmm....that's strange....I've never heard of only pages getting de-indexed rather than entire sites.....did you use the right operator?

Not strange at all, Google routinely de-indexes that it finds to be duplicate, unoriginal or of low quality. By the way, the site: oprator is not actionable: the results returned by it are often wildly inaccurate and misleading.

@highbrid, the key to solving indexation problems lies in good site structure, correct linking and achieving a high page rank. I write this resource on crawling and indexation that you may find helpful:

Thanks for the tips, they were very helpful... i still find it a bit weird that it suddenly decided to de-index the page for one or more of the reasons you outlined when none of the one-site SEO factors had changed much in the past 6 months.

So can i assume that if i have done something 'bad' google would have banned my entire site rather than the individual page? So I can therefore assume i just have an indexation issue rather than a problem with my link building?

Regarding my link building, i was doing about 200 social bookmarks a day for all of the pages that had backlinks pointing to this one page that has been de-indexed. Is it possible that google has penalised me for this?

        Cheers.

Old blog pages and old forum posts often get de-indexed because generally, Google's programmers know that these kinds of pages become less popular with readers over time. People generally want recent stuff when they visit sites.
