    1. Write tageted articles and publish them on ezinearticles, goarticles etc. Social Bookmark them
    2. Comment on niche related blogs
    3. Get your link in a niche related forum signature. Be active on the forums.

If you want instant traffic then you need to look at getting your URL in front of a lot of eyes and hope they click through. Instant traffic is going to come from methods such as Pay Per Click advertisting, Media Buying etc.

A free option is to try and get some interest on Twitter and Facebook...if your content is interesting then it is possible for people to retweet or pass the link onto friends.

If you article is really interesting you can look into sites such as Digg and Stumbleupon. If the content suits these sites you can get a rush of traffic very fast.

You can also look at doing guest posts on popular sites within your niche.

Search engine traffic isn't really instant but a medium to long term goal/process.

Fraggler touched on it - SEO isn't an instant process. It can take some time to build momentum. I've had people ask me why they're not seeing massive traffic increases - after publishing 8 articles. It just doesn't work that fast. However, SEO offers you plenty of benefits that you can't get with PPC. PPC may get you some instant traffic while you wait for your SEO strategy to catch up, but PPC also stops working once you stop paying the bills.

Its all about SEO. Thats how you promote: Blog posting, forum postings, article submissions, url submissions, making blogs, press releases, rss feed submissions, blog submissions, etc.

keep your website updated with regular content, submit these articles to social bookmarking websites, re-write those articles (some of them) or create new articles and post them on article submission websites linking them back to your own website.

Press release helps in a great way.

For instant traffic, create google ads.

When I want instant traffic I focus on PPC/media buys, video marketing, twitter/facebook, and classifieds (have to get creative).

My long term SEO traffic strategy is different.

The big SEO trend these days is to write guest posts. For a new website, it's hard to build up quality dofollow backlinks. Number one, if your site isn't getting any traffic, no one will link to it. Number 2, if you have a new site with a PR of 0, people are reluctant to link to it.

The only free way to get high quality backlinks aside from begging, is to write guest posts on niche related sites. Typically, the blog owner will give you 2 dofollow backlinks within the content.

If your site is new, you should probably set more modest goals for guest blogging. You're not likely to get a guest post accepted on ProBlogger or Zen Habits, etc.
