If I were you I would make sure my pages were optimized for my keywords. Then move on to some social bookmarking followed by blog posts, article writing, and possibly some forum posting.

Well first you need to figure out your budget. How much money are you willing to spend on SEO? Then figure out what you are going to buy after that.

To be honest, I havent spend any money on SEO. I havent paid for automatic submissions...etc. And I've seen pretty good results. However, I personally think it takes much longer to see results when done all manually.

@Sam236 The first thing I would do is develop a sound strategy for my SEO campaign and take a look at the "competitive landscape" to see how much work you're going to need to do.

1.) Look at competitors websites. See what keywords they are targeting and try to get an idea of how entrenched they are in their online domination. Check their page rank, traffic levels, backlinks and all that good stuff.

2.) Conduct a site wide analysis of the site you're working on. Make sure there aren't any areas of the website that aren't being indexed. Ensure there's strong internal linking, check to make sure your robots.txt file isn't disallowing stuff it shouldn't be disallowing.

3.) Develop a content development strategy to make sure address the different variations of keywords that people are looking for when trying to find your products or services.

4.) Develop a regular and consistent link building strategy.

That should be enough to get started. Once you get a good process down you'll be able to take your SEO knowledge and apply it to any website you come across.

Select Keywords, select good titles for your content, Bold keywords only where necessary, neat website design.

Make sure your website doesn't look spammy. I've come across many websites that is maintained by SEO specialists and look extremely spammy.

    MY advice:
    1. On page SEO - keyword density of 3-4%, keyword in H1 tag, other kw's in H2 tags
    2. backlinking - video posting, article posting (on article directories), blog commenting

    That's just the basic start

You've got to start with awesome keyword research. If you're targeting the wrong keywords, everything else you do could be moot.

After you've got your keywords, do your on-page optimization. On-page SEO doesn't generate as much traffic as off-page, but it's a very important foundation to have. Spiders need to know exactly what your site is about, so that they know where to rank you. Your on-page optimization tells them that.

Then, finally, you can get to the off-page SEO. Stick to quality backlinks generated by quality content (article marketing, guest blog posts, forum posts, social bookmarking, etc). Don't waste your time buying links. Even trading links can be risky, so do your homework if you plan on trading links with anyone.

    Good luck to you!
