What other methods in SEO do you know?

Don't obsess over SEO. If you only focus on that and think that this tactic will get you lots of traffic then you may never make it.

I have been online for a few years and still don't get it.

Paying for traffic is one of the best ways to get visitors.

For my niche sites, I don't want to mess with managing PPC campaigns. I'm willing to put the work in up front to get ongoing free traffic. Besides that, searchers are 6 times more likely to click on an organic result than a sponsored listing.

There are three main factors that go into ranking a page or web site for your search results:

1. Structure of the site
2. Content of the site
3. Backlinks to the site

Structure of the Site

Without going into too much detail, you want your site to be structured properly.
* Keep the code as clean as possible.
* Put scripts and styling in linked files rather than in the page itself.
* Optimize your images
* Dump markup heavy table layouts and use CSS instead.

This is more of an area where a properly structured site doesn't necessarily work for you, but an improperly structured one can work against you.

This is one of the easiest areas to do, so just make sure you start with a solid foundation. A stock install of Wordpress will get you 90% of the way there.

Content on Your Site

There are two elements to this and both are equally important: the structure and hierarchy of the content and the composition of the articles themselves.

Often I will spend as much time on creating the content structure as I do on keyword research. If you've ever read about "siloing" or creating "content themes," your content structure plays into that. Dan Theis has a free report on SEO, part of which covers his process for structuring content.

Also recognize that one article alone on your site may not be enough to rank for the phrase. Going back to the content theme, you may need to write multiple related articles (check out the Google Wonder Wheel) before Google considers your site an "authority" on that particular topic.

The other part of optimizing your content is on the actual articles themselves. This is the most straightforward part of SEO.
* Include the keyword phrase in the page title, at the beginning if possible.
* Include the keyword phrase in the first paragraph, in the body, and in the closing paragraph
* Include it in a heading
* Take a couple of related or (LSI) keywords and work it into the content as well

In niches that aren't that competitive, the above may be enough to rank. I just recently had a client that got page one rankings in Google for several keywords solely by creating really tight and targeted content on their site. There was no backlinking done other than a couple of things done to index it.

Once you have the first two factors down, building backlinks comes next and is the time consuming and sometimes tedious part. There are tons of posts in this forum that list different ways to get backlinks.

Beyond the ones you mentioned of article submission, forum posting, and bookmarking, here are a few more:

* Video submissions
* Presentation directories
* Document directories
* Software directories
* Niche directories
* RSS directories
* 2.0 sites

Just look at the programs Incansoft offers and you'll get a pretty good overview. I'm still waiting for their PodBot to come out.

Yes I've got this already and I got indexed with only the Site 4 simple pages which is:
Main page(home), Who am I, Freebies page, Video's page (created my own video from youtube). I also use wordpress.

The post is really good but i would like to know that in case if SEO has been hired clients do not like software to be used. What's your opinion?

I like your post as it is providing me with the info that I have not read before, and mainly the processes that you have mention in your post for getting backlinks, I find RSS submissions more relevant and beneficial in terms of SEO and traffic. Apart from this, PPT submissions can be a better option to have.

Thanks for the Information...really good. I have put up several sites and tried various methods to improve my ranking on Google. However, no matter what I do, I can't even get on the radar screen. Would be nice to know when you put up the website where you stand e.g. 1 millionth or whatever. Then you can monitor the position each time you do something different. Maybe there is a software product that does this????

PS: still haven't figure out WordPress. I downloaded it from fantastico in my cPanel, but don't know what to do after that???

I think to improve traffic on your site do press release, social bookmarking, article submission, classified, this all are very useful to increase the traffic of your site.

I agree with most of these things except for directory submissions, 2.0 sites, RSS directories and social bookmarking.

Because each of these methods is incredibly easy to manage and utilize for SEO purposes, Google is leaning towards applying less and less value towards these methods every day.

With the exception of the Yahoo and DMOZ directory listing, almost every single directory listing is useless and will likely not be indexed or counted worth anything.

But there are some things that are hard or almost impossible to fake such as domain age and strength. These are truly powerful tools to SEO and are getting more weight every single day.

So if I had to add to your list, here would be my best contributions:

-Blog farming
This means utilizing services like Unique Article Wizard or SEO Linkvine to generate diverse, contextually relevant backlinks to various money sites. It's really effective for getting well indexed, contextually relevant blog links to your site.

-Pumper blogs
You essentially do this by buying up aged domain names and drip feeding thousands of backlinks to them per day. Then you post your own contextually relevant links to each of your money sites on a couple of blog posts. Works amazingly well since it gets the full PR of the home page of an aged domain. Great to have.

-Signature surges
Here's where you buy signature files or create your own. You'll see this a good bit in the WF, including my own signature. I basically get on a forum, make a few hundred solid posts, then put an anchor text backlink to my money site. Simple. You can also buy these for super cheap for an instant couple hundred anchor text backlinks.

-XRumer
I can't get enough XRumer. I love XRumer forum profiles so much, I have my own dedicated server that drip feeds 2,000 links per day to my money sites. It makes me happy.

-Backlink indexing
Problem with XRumer is Google never finds the links, so they get ignored. Forum profiles are super obscure. I fix this using an indexing service like Backlink Energizer. Works amazingly well.
And the sad truth is, 98 percent of your forum profiles won't get indexed if you don't do something like this. It's highly important. Do it.

Usually these automation softwares are blackhat seo tools but if you want to use them, you can use SEnuke, Xgenseo to make articles and post them to web 2 sites and then submit them to social bookmarking sites and ping them and ... .
Also you can use bookmarking demon or social poster to submit your pages to social bookmarking sites too. And Article Submitter and Article demon can so the submission of articles for you automatically.

Would you recommend the bookmarking to be outsourced and be completed in 1 week?
or do the bookmarking yourself and submit 2 -5 bookmark per day?

Yeah Gary - that is such a good point! Press releases can be so crucial in bumping up traffic - especially if you're experienced and you know what you're doing! I have had some really good results with press releases at times - and it made all the difference in getting the campaign off the ground!

The post is really good but i would like to know that in case if SEO has been hired clients do not like software to be used. What's your opinion?

I really don't think a client is going to care whether you physically copied and pasted the same information into all the sites or used a program to speed it up. It's not like you're using Xrumer.

They want to get the broadest exposure possible for the amount they are paying you. If you can find a way to do in 30 minutes what it would take someone 3 hours to do manually, I don't think you're doing your client a service just so you can say you do it all "by hand." Take that time and use it to write a few more articles or press releases to distribute for them.

I would say buying text links on high ranking pages... you'll have to do your search or go to digital point forum to buy one. This is more advanced, so make sure that you do some research on this so you don't get scammed.

Also, article syndication blog networks such as seo linkvine, my article network, syndicate kahuna, article ranks etc. These work REALLY well.

I think that someone mentioned Q and A sites... but I don't know if they mentioned which ones... yahoo answers and ask.com's version of that are good choices.

A lot of what people have been saying is spot on. Concentrate on your on page SEO. Get that 100% spot on. Then build some backlinks using the various methods people have mentioned above.

I use tools such as SEOPressor for on page SEO. I use social bookmarking submission tools such as Bookmarking Demon. I also have SENuke for creating Web 2.0 accounts, article submissions, RSS submissions and much more.

One thing that many business owners do in the offline world is to network. This is something that you shouldn't forget in the online world. It's all good using these tools for backlinks but using these tools in such a way that you can network with real users of these sites in your niche will be very valuable. Interacting and networking on these Web 2.0 sites will help to build your brand aswell as helping in the search engines.

I really like article networks... I think they are quite effective.

Otherwise I really got into social bookmarking lately. I really think it helps get more than just decent rankings. Ranking 4th to 6-7th is good but not awesome. Reaching the Top 3 is often difficult but not impossible and I found social bookmarking useful for this in quite a few situations.

Blog commenting, it is another link-building technique that has become quite popular these days. search the web for authoritative blogs on your niche that allow do-followcw commenting and try to make a point with your comment; don't just go on spamming blogs with links to your website, or you'll just get your comments deleted and end up with no links and a spoiled reputation.

For my niche sites, I don't want to mess with managing PPC campaigns. I'm willing to put the work in up front to get ongoing free traffic. Besides that, searchers are 6 times more likely to click on an organic result than a sponsored listing.

Absolutelly true... People are hungry for the best information when they search for it... They don't want any crap information that is just in front of their eyes because someone paid for it...

This is a question... RSS directories and social bookmarking sites are out of my interest now, from the simple reason Cataclysm mentioned... Directory submissions still work, but I have noticed a decrease of its importance recently as well (except for free DMOZ and paid Yahoo directory for sure, maybe a couple of others)... 2.0 sites - ok, let's put a backlink there... It will help indeed... But these sites can help much more to anyone trying to promote something (just search for some free guide about making money on Twitter, FB etc. - there is a lot of them out there)...

I personally only use SEO for my affiliate business... Someone can say it's a long time run before you can make it with SEO, which is just not true...

1. Put up your website
2. Make sure your keywords are long tail and include more competitive short tail keywords
3. Make sure the content of your website is informative for your visitors
4. Make sure the content of your website is search engine friendly (title tag (highly important), meta tags, alt tags, density of keywords (highly important), LSI keywords (highly important!)
2. Get some high PR inbound links to your website
3. Get your backlinks indexed asap
4. See your great results

All of these I use for my static websites... I am planning to start a blog soon, which is, I believe, another great way to make money (then social networking and social bookmarking sites will come to my scope as well)...
