I've gotten a few emails lately about people who want to exchange links with my site. They have a PR 4 and state so, but when you look at them on Yahoo they don't have any backlinks or they just don't show up. Same with Google.

Obviously I'm staying away from it because who knows what is going on there and they are not even related to my site.

But do you think that PR can be faked? How can they have a PR 4 (I verified this) if they don't appear to have any backlinks and more importantly are not even indexed in Google?

go to google and type: site:domain(.)com and the result should be the exact domain you typed in. Be careful though, sometimes people sell a .net that is redirecting and picking up the pr of their .com. Make sure the search result is exactly right.

Yes, it can be faked - there was a great online tool for checking that and it was pretty god at catching all the fake PR sites. I believe it was in German or at least created by some German guy - just Google "fake PR checker" or something of that nature and see if you can find it since I don't remember the URL.

Yes PR can be faked, simply, when a site uses a 301 redirection to redirect their domain to a higher ranked website. For example if I wanted to fake a domains PR I could use the redirect to point Example Web Page to www.Google.com
