Hi!

I have around 25+ micro niche sites and most of them are on no.1 page of google. Currently I'm receiving CTR of 2% only and I'm using only one slot of ad in the right sidebar..

Color of the ads are completely blended with the site's content.
CTR of minisites usually found to be above 25%..
I know here are many champs who must know the secret behind it..

Please help!!!

Thanks in advance..

I have only a couple of Mini-Sites, some of them brand new ones.
However, my experience from AdSense ads is, that there are some rules:

    1. I use short page copies ( about 300 words ) without any product links.
AdSense ads are the only ones , what a visitor can click.

    2. I Use the long tail keywords, around 1.500 - 2.500 searches per month ( Google Keyword Tool ), only one search term per page.

    3. I use one ad block 336 x 280 right under the title, one ad block at side bar 160 x 600 and one 468 x 60 just under the text above the footer with bright blue headlines and black copies.

    4. The content must respond the search term and to be useful.

Google TOS do not allow to publish the CTR, but it varies a lot. Thanks to the high price per click the income is still satisfactory.

    To increase your CTR:
    - use high CTR adsense theme (if you want to change it wordpress)
    - change your ad placement, try and error
    - bring in more traffic

    Hope it helps.

If those 25 sites are pulling enough traffic it might be worth looking at YieldBuild (YieldBuild). I'm currently trialing it myself, but it's too early to report any progress.

I have never tried YieldBuild, but I have experimented with other CPC networks and none has yielded as much as Adsense.

For the original question: It is not clear to me whether you are looking at CTR for Adsense or for an affiliate offer. In either case, I would move the link from the right column to the main content portion to improve CTR. If you are promoting an affiliate offer, I suggest an optimized link within the context of the content plus one that says something like "learn more" at the bottom of the content. Periodically, change the anchor text of the link to test your CTR.

For Adsense, I usually get my best CTR from links in the middle of the content, although link units have lower value than others. My tests indicate that more clicks at lower prices generate more revenue than higher priced ads at lower CTR. I'm sure that this varies with the niche.

Yieldbuild isn't an ad network. Yes it allows you to display ads from a variety of different networks, but if you want to use it exclusively with AdSense then you can - in fact that's exactly what I'm doing. The real value lies in the ability to tweak ad formats and layouts automatically to try to obtain the best combination of CTR and CPC to maximize your revenues.

The fact that other ad netwroks are available is just a plus to me, so that if the worst should happen and my AdSense account got banned then I'd just plug in some other ad networks.

However, if you want to tweak your layouts manually thats fine. In that case the following might help:

1.) Read Joel Comms Adsense Secrets (freely downloadable from: http://adsense-secrets.com/)

2.) If you want to run your own A/B or multivariant tests then take a look at Google Website Optimizer

3.) Install heatmap software to see where your users are actually focusing their valuable clicks. Clickheat is an excellent (and once again, free) download: http://www.labsmedia.com/clickheat/index.html
