Don't limit yourself to Adsense

Yes Adsense is the biggest, but it's not necessarily the best for you. There are other legitimate ad networks out there. You can learn about some of them at my blog in my signature. If you are just starting out you may want to find an ad network with a lower minimum payout. Or maybe you want something that is a lot simpler, and won't ban you for no reason. I tell people all the time to try other ad networks to find the one that works best for them.

Personally, I think Adsense is a horrible way to make money. In fact, the ONLY reason I have it on my blog is because I heard a "rumor" that Google considers whether or not Adsense is present in the ranking algorithm.

This is only an unconfirmed rumor, but when I started thinking about it, I can see how that type of tactic would benefit them.

AdSense works only if you have tons of traffic. But well, if you have traffic then you can sell to direct advertisers and earn much more.

      That's bull

I have a few sites that generate close to 10.00 a day and those sites only get 20 or so visitors a day sometimes even less than that.

I have personally tried many of the top contenders to Adsense's contextual format over the years. For the most part, they do not come even close. And some of them end up not even paying you.

@Is Adsense a horrible way to make money?
I personally think that being a dentist is a horrible way to make money. Some say the porn and dating industry is a horrible way to make money.

But my dentist has recently bought a relatively large yacht and is on it this month. I also know a few babies who are here on earth today because of relationships started online.

So to each his own I say. As long that is legal and I can sleep at night, a dollar is green to me regardless of where it came from.

Adsense to me is the easiest way to get started to make money online as you do not need any marketing prowess beyond good SEO to make it. Selling a $2,000 course for a $1,000 commission is great, but it ain't easy for a newbie or middle level marketer.

I personally feel adsense is a good option to make money, however, the recent mayday update is not favoring made for adsense sites. So go for adsense only if you'd add quality content and build strong backlinks regularly.
