Yahoo Merging With Bing... Your Thoughts?

If you have been advertising on Yahoo you'll know that they are currently in a transition period to move over to the Microsoft Ad Center platform and combine their search networks together to create much more exposure for you.

What do you think of this change?

Will you ultimately benefit more from this merger or will it hurt your SEM techniques and strategies?

I think it will be good news for PPC user specially google is cracking down big time as they are being pressure I believe by the FTC. Bing and yahoo merging for search engine mean they will be more powerful as search engine.

Before, to conquer the search market of the United States, it was necessary to take four engines; Google, Bing, Yahoo!, and Ask.com. This makes it easier since there will be one less to worry about. =) Although, I will miss Yahoo! Kind of one of those nostalgic pieces of the Internet - good old Yahoo! search.

It'll be a great change as my experience is that Bing rankings usually correlate to Google rankings (which IMHO are very straightforward to obtain).

Yahoo rankings on the other hand, are like playing pin a tail on the donkey after 20 tequila shots. Of course, Yahoo search gets such little traffic it doesn't really matter all that much.

l have one domain, with 20 keyword optimized pages. All pages have similar backlink numbers and are similarly well-optimized. All 20 are in the top 2 pages of Google for their desired keywords. My yahoo rankings range from #5, to not in the top 1000. They just make absolutely no sense.

I love it and hate it at the same time.

I love yahoo traffic as for me it converts better than Bings so being able to just get search traffic from yahoo and not bing was a plus for me.

I love yahoo's ad account interface and not a big fan of Microsoft's ad center. So having to switch everything over to there will be a plain.

I rank #3-#4 on the first page of google for my broadest, most competitive keyword but nowhere to be found in bing. I find google likes fewer backlinks of good quality but bing likes loads of backlinks of spammy quality. So it makes it really hard to rank for both.

Love to be ranking high on Bing once this change happens. Yahoo is saying the switch should be any day now late August.

I don't get it why yahoo should merge with bing since if yahoo is going to use bing's algos then why call them yahoo. they should quit of disband the company if they dont have their own product

Heads up the change started taking place today. The organic search results in Yahoo have started to mirror Bing already. I received an email today (from both Yahoo and Bing) notifying me that organic search will be implemented tomorrow. Last year I had a Yahoo Store, but jumped to Volusion because I felt Yahoo was abandoning that product. With the recent surrendering of Organic Search and PPC to Bing, it seems that they have totally jumped ship on search all together.

Purely for the sake of those who use PPC a lot, Yahoo and Bing joining forces can't be a bad thing.

There are probably other advantages, and other disadvantages. But from a PPC point of view, Google needs competition in order for them to up their Customer Service levels!

It will take a while for them (Yahoo! & Bing) to further grow their market share, but this at least gives them a fighting chance.
