Question About Backlinks

Hello Warriors!

There are so many questions repeated over and over, so if this has been explained, please direct me to the answer instead of reposting. I will try to be as descriptive as I can, in order to get the best answer for all the warriors that this could benefit.

As many of you have done, I have a lot of Internet Marketing ebooks, guides, and whatnot. In a few, the author tells you to write articles and post them on Articles sites. Then, they tell you to create back-links.

So here is the question. Should I go to related forums/blogs/websites and create back-links to my Articles, to my website, or to both? Also, if creating back-links to your articles, should you do it for all your articles, or just on the more popular article sites?

I thank you in advance for any useful responses, and I hope that this may help clear things up for a few others that may have the same question.

~Teravel

Threads which it'll help you to read, on this subject, are this one, this one, this one, this one, and especially this longer one, which contains the answer to your question above and a whole lot more, and is actually a considerably better and more worthwhile read than most "article marketing guidebooks".
I am doing the same, Alexa, and it does really work, you are right. It also works if you are rewriting the article after publishing it on your site, if you have time, I use different articles /versions on my blog, PR, and article directories.
Even if your articles will not rank too high you will still get the backlinks.

OK, sounds reasonable. I've noticed that the articles I've submitted to Ezine Articles have been indexed pretty quickly, but what can I do to help get them indexed on my site?

So we got amazing information for the "Where and when should I post my content" and even more in depth reasons for doing so.

Along with Stacyman's question of "How do I get indexed faster on my own site?" I would also like to ask another strange question that is hard to Google.
A few Ebooks I have suggest "Bookmarking the site" but do not explain how or even what "Bookmarking" is. Its also a term that is hard to google, as every time I do, it brings me to clicking the "Bookmark" button at the top of IE or Firefox.

Backlinking your writing in article directories helps to raise its Page Rank (PR). By doing so, it makes it more important or authorative, results in requiring less backlinks to your site for it to rise up in the Search Engine Ranking Positions (SERPS).

Also if the directory is an established one such as Ezine Articles, its possible to add as many backlinks as you wish without any form of penalty. If your site is new and is receiving too many backlinks in a short space of time, it may be penalised with the sandbox.

I apologize for posting this question in the wrong area, and thank whoever moved it to where it is supposed to be.

Alexa, thank you so much for the response. Not only did you answer my question by explaining the simple fact of "Don't help your competition outrank your own sites!", as well as posting links to further information. I do not have time to read those posts at the moment, due to a large argument with my 3 year old son thinking he can rule the house. But, I promise I will get back to this post as soon as I can, and read through all of those links. Thank you again Alexa, and all other warriors that may follow with more.

I've been wondering the same thing myself, Teravel.

    Thanks for asking the question.

    Alexa, thanks for answering.

I'll be reading some of your links.

It was suggested in the long thread Alexa suggested that you post your article to your own site, then to Article directories. It then says...

    3. Bookmark your original article and bookmark the blog with the summary. After bookmarking if you have Rss Feeds then submit those to Rss Directories.

So what is this concept of Bookmarking websites? I assume it doesn't mean bookmark it in your Firefox so you can quickly get back, as that would be far too easy to be part of IM.

Only build backlinks to your own site, not to article article directories...building backlinks to article directories won't help you much.
