Are there different types of Keyword research?

I was reading a discussion on keyword research and adwords campaigns and I recall someone mentioning that targeting wide or broad keywords was a good thing as opposed to targeting deep keywords. Would the same rule be said for article marketing or SEO for article marketing? I was told that long tail keywords were the way to target good keyword niches.

Long tail keywords are easier to rank for, that's why people like them.

It's easier to rank for "cheap mortgages montreal quebec" than "mortgages"

Simply write a keyword rich article that targets a long tail keyword.

Put it on web-sites that get a lot of google love like squidoo, hub pages, ezinearticles etc
and you should see your article rank.

The monetization is up to you, hope this helps

the best way is to broaden your keywords.. but still has to be connected to your topic..the more keywords you can come up, the better..
