Massive Backlinks Bad for Local Offline Business?

Its seems most local offline services businesses in my area ( Ex., painters, plumbers, electricians )have at the most 100 - 200 links .

Do you have any experience what a monthly backlink campaign that would bring in over 1,000 - 2,000 links could do?

Would Google think Hey, that's too much for a small, local business?

Most would not be relevant links except for article directory backlinks on the same subject matter as the website.

Offliners, what your experience or thoughts?

Thanks

Google would think something along then lines of, "Hey that business should be ranked 1st".

I've never had a problem ranking a local business given light competition

hey mate, I'd say that it would probably be easier (and quicker) to build another place page and get the #2 spot on google places than trying to be number one on the regular results below the places results.

Why would you want to waste 1000-2000 back-links monthly if you only need 200? Start with a moderate number of back links and keep adding until the site gets to the top of the page (or your desired position).

Then, just keep adding a few links if you think you are beginning to slip.

MarkAse - Thanks for your reply.

giftsolution - Thanks for your reply, I don't see it as wasting links really, I just would like to try one of the services by one of the warriors. Its a backlinking service that gives almost 2,000 backlinks over 6 months for a nominal monthly fee.

Its for my own personal offline business. I am on page one but below yellow pages and servicemagic. If I could do enough to pass these two my competition would be way down on the page considering the Places Map pushes everyone below the fold. I do have the "A" slot on that map, but would love the one spot on the listings below.

    Thanks

If you are talking about google maps and local listings,
      backlinks don't count.

Hard to say why a local company would want backlinks
across the globe. Print advertising along with the type-in
traffic is what you are going for.

If you do a search for a plumber in your exact area, you will
see the maps come up first. And where do you think people are
going to click? And many, many of those businesses do not even have
      a website.

        paulgl -

I already have the "A" slot on Places for my offline business.

I want to beat out Yellow Pages and ServiceMagic for my keyword phrase.

I was considering hiring a warrior offering a backlink campaign that gives about 2,000 backlinks within 6 months. It's at a reasonable price.

I have not asked yet about PR of this links, but I rank well with just about 100 yahoo indexed links, having only a couple of PR2 links.

I know it's more important now to have a small amount of high PR links, instead a lots of unranked links. But, the unranked links that I do have are obviously working.

I would like to build my own network of PR sites to link from, but do not know what course to take to accomplish this, any advice?

        Thanks

If you're getting 2,000 back links over a period of 6 months...that's roughly 11 links per day. I don't see Google having a problem with that and it will most likely get you the ranking you are shooting for.

I haven't tried it yet, as I am just getting into the offline business/online presence market, but I would think videos with decent links, tags and content would do wonders for offline businesses. Set up a specific You Tube channel just for your business and throw just 2 or 3 videos up there and optimize them. Videos are pulling major traffic as I'm sure you know
    Just a thought

Why sink a site in the SERPS with backlinks. The point is if you are monitoring the competition and your position for a site and keywords you already know what the competition is doing and in those markets it is not that difficult to acquire more backlinks in a short period of time.

You should have no problem at all with that service. I just used a similar service giving the site 2,500 profile back links for 4 KW's that all triggered a map result.

Got the A listing and #1 spot for all search terms in a week. Could I have done it manually with less links? Probably but the time it would have taken and cost outweighs getting a blast done and grabbing the results the client wanted instantly.

Ever since then, I've been linking as fast as I can to all my sites with no worries, and nothing but great results have come from it. In fact, I just ordered 3250 links the other day, all to one site.
Okay so here's my question. In order to get the most out of those backlink packages you buy, would you recommend trying to get all the links indexed? (NOT ALL AT ONCE) Like I would social bookmark a certain amount a day then ping the social bookmarks to make sure they get indexed. And if that didn't work run them through SEO Fast Link Indexer.

Like I said NOT all at once but a steady stream every day. OR do you all prefer to just buy a ton and let Google find them naturally if they decide to?

Yes, I think massive links is not going to serve the purpose in anyway. Google in fact would only penalize the site. What is indeed needed is the gradual build-up of back links by time. Google appreciates slow build-up.

Yes, I agree with everything here, if you plan on building tons of backlinks, do it over time. But if you do build backlinks over the entire make sure it is quality. Second, if you do plan on really making an online presence for the local business be sure to take advantage of the video marketing...It super easy.

I made 4 unique videos..Created 4 accounts under 1 email. Add keyword rich unique titles, descriptions, and keyword tags and ranked on bing first page for very competitive keyword that gets 1,000+ searches a day and that was just Bing. Also i showed up in the video section of google. If you do this with your local business, you will surely get the same results. Be sure to ping that video site and add your url to the business site.

And like everyone said, do it over time because if your competition has no idea what to do yet...You will be able to control the rankings much easier and will be able to turn on the juice when need be.

I highly recommend Market Sam as well plus they offer free trial so it is totally worth.

And make sure those backlinks count with keyword rich titles from my experience it really helps just make sure you are adding some quality into those sites that you add your backlink and the moderators won't mind unless you spam them.

2000 is fine, just make sure your anchor text and keywords are spot on etc, and you should steam the competition at that level.

My bad. When he said "Its a backlinking service that gives almost 2,000 backlinks over 6 months" ....I took it as 2,000 total backlinks in a 6 month period. Even so, as others have mentioned, 2000 links per month still isn't a problem.

I want to thank you all that replied, general consensus seems to be just keep building links as many as you can as fast as you want. ( obviously, to a certain degree )

I have order some link packages, but will now focus on attaining high PR links, even if I can only get a small amount.

Are you warriors looking for high PR only, or still just getting as many links, no matter the PR value?

        Thanks
