You are correct. Title is the most important and has great effect on SEO.

The description is also very important as you should think of it a small sales letter. As this will show on the search engine results page you should put some thought into it and make it appealing and so it will make people click on your site.

The keywords tags are useless for SEO as far as I know. The bots are using your content and other aspects to determine what keywords to rank each page for so the keyword tag has no weight anymore.

Keyword tag is not used in Google anymore so it does not count anymore..There may be other smaller search engines that do still consider them though...

For the description tag, this is important (not for the purpose of ranking) because this will show up in the SERPs. If you have a louse written description tag, then less ppl will click on it....Also, if your description tag is not relevant and well written then Google sometimes pick a random sentence from your website which you should avoid..

Lastly the title tag is very important to optimize properly..It can make the difference of a low vs a high ranking...

    Good Luck!!

Regardless of whether G uses meta tags or not, they remain a fundamental element in SEO.

Yes I don't think that G places any importance on keyword tags, but other SE's may. What if G gave no credit for good keyword tags, but flagged a site with a spammy keyword list?- you just never know.

The rule-of-thumb I learned ten years ago regarding the keyword tag list is to limit the list to a total of 25 words or less, and never repeat any word more than three times.

Johan, Great point about the Description Tag.

Just like you mentioned, if you take just a few extra minutes to write a good, compelling description (instead of just leaving it blank or stuffing it with keywords) it can help you draw more traffic through the SERPs.

Google doesn't use the KEYWORDS meta tag. TITLE and DESCRIPTION are important, but Google doesn't use the DESCRIPTION tag for ranking, and it doesn't even ALWAYS use the DESCRIPTION tag for the snippets it uses to display on the SERPs.
