How do i build a micro adsense site into a authority site.

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question about building authority sites with adsense, I am not new to adsense or IM and have built some quite large adsense sites (well 20 pages i know its not huge but..)

Anyway i just wanted to clear something up as to how some of the successful adsense guys work.

What got me thinking was today i am ordering some articles and wanted to add another page to a micro site i have on `Tent awnings` its just afew pages `replacement awnings` , `portable awnings`

But when i was looking for a keyword to get a article written for i really didn`t fancy anything but i could see loads of great keywords for `tents`

So whats your thoughts on me just progressing from my little `tent awning` micro site and starting to add pages/posts on tents eg..camping tents, family tents , pop up tents ect ect..

Is this how you would start small and build a huge site ? What bothers me is that the sites title is `tent awnings` homepage about awnings and mostly seo`d around awning but now i want to go into camping tents ect ect does this look natural ??

If this is how you do it that would be great as i have micro adsense sites on dishwashers and fridges and could really expand those sites from the original `slimline fridge` into fridge freezers ect ect..

Any advice would be great..

Jim

That's why I don't use the tightly focused domain names so many adsense people advise. Micro niches are one thing - micro sites are another. At least that's how I see it.

What you could do is move to subdomains so that you have tents.awnings.com or patio-covers.awnings.com . You would not be creating an authority site - but a range of small sites on a similar topic.

If I had a very focused domain name, I'd take the subdomain route. If I had a domain that was a bit more general, I'd go with folders to increase the size of the site. That's just my take on it.

And what benefit do i get from going to subdomains ? Just saving the cost of a godaddy domain name or do i get added juice from the fact the main site has backlinks and seo with the word `tent` in it although it is followed by awnings it is relevant.

"I'd go with folders to increase the size of the site." Can you explain this alittle more ls Kay ?

The benefit would be adding the new keyword to the domain name. A subdomain is treated much as a standalone site and you can link directly to it and will have to SEO it, too.

If you expand the site with folders, you are just adding categories for different products. It makes the original site bigger but the domain is still narrowly targeted so it might take more to get traffic to the additional categories. However, when you look at the growth of sites such as about.com you see that authority can be developed on any site.

Others may see it differently, but if I have a narrow domain that targets just one product or product line I probably wouldn't attempt to expand it greatly but would either use subdomains to increase keyword targeting for the new topic or would start with a domain that covered the broader niche.

There is no right or wrong to it - just what you think works best for you.

Thanks very much for your advice !

I keep thinking about some of my other adsense sites and how i had plans to build them up article by article but i`m not so sure now.

Anybody else feel that a site `tent-awnings.com` would be wrong in adding pages like pop up tents, party tents, camping tents to the site ?

Exactly what is the problem with it ? When i create the page i seo it, write good meta tags with seo all in one and publish it, when its visable in the serps it will have my seo all in one title, description, and the url would be tentawning dot com/campingtents

So i`ve added adsense and start backlinking the page, What is the problems here ??

Why is this not going to build a authority site around tents if i keep adding pages with tents in the keyword ?

          Cheers Jim

yeah the subdomains are for something that is targeted exactly, and
actually pinpointed to something other than your main domain.

If your domain had a forum, you probably would want forum.domain.com

For content related, folders. Even for a broad domain, like sportinggoods,
you would not really want baseball.sportinggoods.com.

I'll tell you what about Kay King. Those answers (as always) are top
notch. Way back when I had 10 posts, she soothed my ruffled feathers.
I'll never forget that. Kay King and bgmacaw are two people here who

Thanks, Paul - your feathers have been fine ever since

Anybody else feel that a site `tent-awnings.com` would be wrong in adding pages like pop up tents, party tents, camping tents to the site ?
No, it wouldn't be "wrong". I'd probably go farther and have something like tents-awnings-patiocovers.com or tents-awnings-canopies.com

Then you'd be wide open to covering all kinds of tents and awnings and other similar products. You could have a site with everything from pup tents to camper awnings and everything in between.

When I use subdomains it's because I've planned it and I might register a domain that is garden-plans.com

That would be wide open to using various plants, statues, fountains, landscape software, garden tools, etc.

        rose.garden-plan.com
        annual.garden-plan.com
        pest-control.garden-plan.com

However with a domain that is tents-awnings-(more) - you can just create pages and subpages for each category and create one big site. There are advantages in having only one site to SEO.

Again, there is no right or wrong. I used to use subdomains a lot but now I'm more inclined to build one big site with folders for various sub-topics.

I am struggling to understand `folders` where are they ? in my cpanel ?

And what exactly are they ? sorry but i dont quite follow if i have a site tentawning dot com and create a folder for a new article i`ve written ` camping tent`

What happens next doe it just become a link in my sidebar or what ?

Sorry to ask so many question !

I started to try to explain - but I found a much better explanation online.

            Try this -

Web site folder structure and file naming tips

Basically, if I create a subdomain in my cpanel and upload pages to
awnings.mydomain.com it's really a standalone site about awnings.

If I upload that same site directly to my domain as "awnings" I create a file (folder) with all the info about awnings.

I hope I'm not confusing your further. It's harder to explain than it is to do.

One method would be to expand content with keyword content around keywords Google considers to be thematically similar.

To find related keywords, use Google's Wonderwheel. AS you build out content around each keyword, you can then use those keywords as the basis for more content.
