Lets say you make a blog in a niche and really don't care much about seo and just keep on posting int that niche not taking in some factors like... keyword density and all that kind of stuff.

Lets say you keep building tons and tons of backlinks to each blog post, would google just figure out what keyword is targeted by analyzing the website and just rank it for random things that you weren't intentionally going to rank for and from that get traffic?

can this happen? where you just have the blog and build backlinks without any keyword research or anything and the only thing that you known is that you're blogging in a particular niche.

    Yeah, if you get lucky.

My first profitable website was like this.

I just posted what I wanted, when I wanted and occassionally built links here and there and the traffic came. Of course it helped that I had chosen (unknowlingly) a really high paying niche that was just coming onto the market.

I just discovered today some natural linking that was resulting in increased traffic. I wrote an article about the largest seo company in india, and they decided to include me in their testimonials and link back to my article. True, I scratched their back and they reciprocated, but I didn't plan on getting the link back. I think when your intentions are to produce useful content, and point out positive things about other people or sites, there is a greater "naturalness", and "naturally" some will notice and you will become the beneficiary of a natural link.

I had similar thing with my first site. I had 0 visitors a day so I just kept posting. Suddenly I noticed that I get about 20 visitors a day from google. I kept doing the same and couple months later I had about 200 visitors a day.

If you're going to go to all that work why not just do a bit of keyword research (or outsource it) and have a win-win situation? Seems like the more profitable option!

Personally, I prefer a hybrid of both keyword research and natural writing. From what I have seen, naturally written articles with great titles get more clicks on the web 2.0 front, whereas high traffic keyword articles that have been optimized get more views from search engines.

Do a little keyword research and then write useful, natural, conversational and unique articles using them in the title and once or twice in the copy.

I had a similar experience- i have always focused on natural writing without bothering too much about keyword density- as you said my keywords are there in the meta title but in the text I just let them occur naturally. have been getting great results so far.

If you are passionate and knowledgeable about a subject then naturally you will update your site often and your text will contain natural topical relevance.

Over time your site becomes a "hub" and gets decent authority. Peopl naturally link to your great information.

Thats how Google likes it to happen anyway.

Of course if its a marketing site and its not your hobby/passion then you need to optimize to maximise.
