Why are there no PPC ads for popular terms anymore?

I've seen this a lot lately... 3-4 keyword phrases in popular markets, from dating to weight loss etc, with only two or three PPC ads.

I know there's been a lot of weeding out from Google lately, but surely they can't have booted that many advertisers?!

I can't understand what's going on. I'd like to jump in with a new project, but I'm worried that I'm missing something that is behind this advertiser absence.

I got a new Google acc recently, and even though I'm not going to be doing anything shady or against their TOS, I'm a a bit anxious about going back to promoting CB products etc just incase they tarnish me with the same brush, you know?

Any idea what's happening here?

they sure have put the boots in and any left would be weeded out in most cases,

some topics to be careful of are

love doctor ( relationship advice )
Lover lover ( any enhancement type products ) / bigger is not better here
    make gazillions while you sleep
snake oil potions, i can fix any ailment with an e book / miracle cures

closely related to the above topics / in general if any person can knock out an e book in a subject that offers advice of a personal nature it would be risky

Next is the site structure, skinny is out / content is in / good links structure is in, forget the fly by night slap it up and whistle dixie - no lovin here as well.

Sure, I can see why too. But the last part (bolded) is questionable. I just found a guy #1 on the PPC listings (center, top, yellow highlight) who has nothing more than a landing/squeeze page and links to the standard legal pages at the bottom.

      Go figure lol.

Generic terms like dating to weight loss can be very expensive.

Goggle wants you to bid high and they match far too many searches.

      Dating 13,600,000 Monthly Searches
      Weight Loss 6,120,000 Monthly Searches

You can blow your budget very quickly and there is a good chance you will not make a profit.

Soon the advertisers cut their loses and look for more targeted keywords.

That's why in my OP, I mentioned the fact that we're talking about 3-4 keyword phrases here.

As in, "how to attract women" for example.

John regardless of budget i would not touch those subjects in an e book format period, if you owned a dating service or a weight loss clinic / similar then maybe but not in ebook form / unless it came from the reputable sites as in the clinic itself or service.

each to their own I may be wrong.
