Anybody else like the "thrill" of taking #1 spot?

Anybody else here enjoy the thrill of the hunt? Trying to nab the #1 spot, or at least chase a competitor down and pass them up?

This particularly holds true when starting out a new site?

I'm about to start a few sites for some folks and am really looking forward to the chasing down of their competitors on page 1.

You know I was thinking that. I'm new to the world so didn't want to start getting "conceded" or anything... just seems like it's a lot simpler than it looks when you are on the outside looking in.

There's a set of rules, parameters if you will... things that work and don't.

I have been reading a TON lately, halfway thru art of seo in 3 days now, no these forums non-stop, and I've been lucky enough to have 2 clients (friends of friends) who need work done and have just about unlimited money to get the job done.... so I get to use them as "testing" haha, which they are fully aware of and fully okay with.

Learning by trial and error I suppose.

Depends on which term you are going after. Long tail stuff is like "oh..great" and holy grail stuff...puts a smile on your face for a little longer.
