Where are the best places to place ads.

Here are some examples of websites (none are mine, just using for example)
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, 1 & 2 - Xbox, PS3, PC - Gameplay, walkthroughs, wallpapers, cheats
Kotaku, the Gamer?s Guide
# Drill Press
TiPb: The #1 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch blog

Can you rate the website on a scale of 10 for ad placement, and could you suggest the best place to put the ads?

I just want to know for when I monetize my website.

Best spots:
- top of page, below nav bar, above or inside content
- top left along the side
Site 1: 8 - color matching/blending, good placement.
Site 2: 0 - don't see any ads!
Site 3: 5 - small ad block, colors don't match perfectly, wouldn't really recommend trying to monetize w/ adsense and amazon.
Site 4: 7 - banner at the top would be pretty effective but the ones on the side further down the page would not be.

  Also forgot to mention to use text ads only, and put the text and url colors to black or grey and the title color to #000080.

  Absolutely. I read somewhere that over time people "got used to seeing" 0000FF so they no longer click on them.

You should try to find an image of the old heat map showing where you have the best odds of getting clicks.

Upper left is the hottest spot. hotter to left than right. hotter from top to bottom.

coldest spot is bottom right.
