Article Marketing and Content Question

I am pretty new to everything and I am learning a lot. I was curious about article marketing. When I write articles I only submit them to one site, I mix them up between ezine and goarticles and use the resource box for the linkback. What does everyone else do? Do you submit one article to several article directories?

I was also reading that people put the article on their site so their site has more content and then they submit it to the articles directories. But I also read having duplicate content on your site is bad for seo. Then I was looking at treatmentcenters.com and looking at their blog and all they do it take articles from other sites. They don't have an original content in their blog and they are rank #1 on google for treatment centers.

Any help, suggestions or explanations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Kind of kills the myth of duplicate content, doesn't it?

Personally, I don't do article submitting anymore. I have gone to making
authority sites, keeping my articles to myself.

To help build authority, toss a couple of throw-away articles
to ezinearticles, goarticles, whatever-articles, but concentrate
on your own site with your own stuff. Build a few high quality
backlinks. Your site should be your #1 priority, not article sites.

Put your work on your own site first. Once it's indexed, then you can submit that to directories (and I would do a few, not just one, with maybe a title change).

It's not duplicate content, it's syndicated content. Plus, even if it were duplicate, it wouldn't be on your site because you had it first.

this is all I do so far, change the title of the article, the rest remains the same. I see my articles at Articlesbase in page 1 and those at EzineArticles are indexed but haven't made it to fisrt page yet

Unless you are doing bum marketing (without a website), your goal should never be for your submitted articles to be in the SERPs. If it happens, good but your goal should always be that your site gets ranked with that content. Let everybody else build up EZA - you build your site.

Great info thanks! As long as you put the article on your site first you shouldn't have to compete with it in the SERPs will you?

I was also wondering if you keep the same resource box when submitting to multiple article directories?

If your site is new, don't be surprised if the same article outranks you at a directory but this is temporary. As your site grows and gains in authority, you will end up outranking the directories.

As to the resource box, you can use the same one if it works well but changing them can be a good way to test different ones to see which works the best.

    Smart move.

Also - I'm doing article marketing for a client now. I am putting multiple articles are various article directories. These are articles directly from his site. We get some decent referral traffic from interested, potential customers.
