Is it valuable to submit multiple press releases?

I've got a couple of different projects in the works. For one site, I only submitted one press release (prlog) last week..and it got some nice traffic and went pretty high in Google fast. I expect it to nose dive pretty soon. With that said, what's the benefit of posting the same press release to multiple sites? Are there any duplicate content issues? I know there are many services out there (in WF) that can submit press releases to multiple sites, but I guess I don't understand the "why." Does anyone a) have an explanation and b) have any real life examples of success w/ press releases?

Also, I've also gotten mixed messages to whether you can put in URLs w/ anchor text. (Which would obviously help the sites I'm trying to promote up the PR chart.) Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for help!

Brad Gosse had a video on his site in the spring about what he learned from Press Releases. It was very helpful. It started by hosting the press release on your site, to claim ownership, and then submitting. I only use PRWeb. It is paid, but gives you the biggest bang for your buck.

My company only uses PRNewswire. It's very expensive - $650 or so per release, but it has the greatest distribution system and it also tells you who picked it up and the URL for those that have reposted it. This is great for clients as they can see Businessweek and Reuters pick up their story.

Depending on the distribution network, it can be very helpful especially for newsworthy items. PRWeb has good analytical data with the release too. I see companies sending out releases simply for the backlinks and it has a low to moderate influence on rankings unless it's picked up outside of the PR network.

My experience and from what I read - PR's aren't that great unless you really have something to talk about.

A while back - we submitted some great PR's - a lot of ppl read them - but the CTR was very low. Major disappointment.

I think that it is smart to go with multiple press release sites for your press releases. From my understanding G understands that in these cases there will be duplicates, it just wont throw as much traffic to all of them.

Hi, when your content is going to be interesting then it will attract more visitors to read your release, same content to maximum 2 or 3 sites is far enough and above that try to give unique content.
