New to SEO,Do I use a blogger blog?

Am quite new to SEO,Although I know the basics.Will a free blogger blog rank if I use enough backlinks?Am trying to rank my home page for mainly a few keywords with around 74,000 global search for each and not much competition.
I just wanted to ask if a free blogger blog will do for SEO?

    No I don't think you can do that with free wordpress,No ads and such..That's why am using blogger.

    I think your best bet is to buy your own domain, sign up for hosting, and install WordPress on the domain. WordPress can be installed in no time if you use HostGator since they offer Fantastico. I would never use a free blog to essentially run my business (even if it's just an affiliate business). Whatever free blog company you go with you shut down your blog at any time and for any reason.
