I have a plug in on my website, that posts to twitter ever time I write a new post on my site. Great thinks I... link juice!

However, on looking at what is being posted to twitter, I'm getting something like this...

blah blaah blah @ ht tp:///ur.ly/lM3a

The link does go to my site... but is it any good in terms of juice? No, right? And, so, how can I chance it?

The plugin is called socialize... does anyone use it?

Twitter links are nofollow'd = no link juice

However, twitter URLs will most likely bring you targeted traffic which is better than link juice.

Twitter links are used with URL shortener and url shorteners use 301 redirects so any juice it contains will be passed to your website.

Twitter is only useful for instant traffic... Nothing else important here.

Twitter is only best for social networking and micro blogging service. Which means ther is no more used beyond this things.

I don't think Twtter is any good for SEO, but it is good for targetted traffic. Its like having a list

I have a real problem with the blanket "twitter etc gives you no love" stance.

Basically up until a few years ago people linked to good content.

However, with the explosion of nofollow as default and the move from recdommending content via sites to recommending via social media like twitter, I think Google would have a real problem if it ignored those links and the concensus formed via those streams.

How can Google be increasingly relevant if it is getting less and less info (ie standard followed links) "voting" for that content?

    It can't.

So in my view there is, or will be soon, an element of site rankings that is linked to nofollow and redirect links and social media postings/votes etc.

Its the only way Google can be relevant in this evolving online world.

But if you still get traffic from Twitter you should be happy right?

  • I have seen Google give importance to a Twitter profile name and description in its organic search results. Profiles with highly optimized terms with a lot of followers may rank high on Google. So, optimizing your profile is key. If your tweets do have relevant phrases that users are searching for, they may even show up on its new 'Updates' search results. But since the updates timeline is fleeting and changes constantly, any link juice that you get from them could be short lived. Furthermore, if your tweets have good relevance, it may even get picked up third party websites that stream Twitter content to their users, which, in turn, could get picked up by Google and drive traffic back to the target sites.

Posting a tweet with a full URL in Twitter with keywords in it will help your page get indexed, I have found. No PR juice though.
