Google Keyword Tool Discrepancies Between Old and New Interface

Maybe I'm a little slow on the up take but has anyone else noticed the HUGE discrepancies between the new interface of the Google Keyword Tool vs. the old interface?

For example, I was targeting 2 keywords and according to the old interface:

KW #1 = 8,100 "exact" local searches per month

KW #2 = 4,400 "exact" local searches per month

But for the new interface:

KW #1 = 320 "exact" local searches per month

KW #2 = 320 "exact" local searches per month

My question is which interface is correct? I'm assuming the new interface but you know what happens when you assume....

    Yup,

I was going to post something yesterday but I didn't have the time. I use MNF for all my kw research so was quite shocked when I noticed such a large discrepancy! I think from now on, will just have to use several tools to gauge an average figure or something.

I think the numbers MAY have something to do with the Mayday/Caffeine algo update. Maybe Google are able to break the numbers right down to long-tails unlike they were able to before (so I'm led to believe).

Maybe its just a way for them to make more money???

I'm not sure but whatever it means, we just have to grin and bear it and adapt.....as we IMers always do!

So what you're saying is to look at both?

It's hard to know which to pay more attention to the interface that says 320/month or 8,100/month. This is a HUGE gap; it's not like one says 2K and the other 10K lol :p.

So I guess I just hope that the keyword I'm targeting is closer to 8,100 than 320 lol.

Kinda sucks having to do all this guess work, I at least thought that the keyword research part would be halfway accurate.

I think there's been an erosion in the quality of the keywords returned too. Less on target, more random-feeling. And the other day I could NOT get it to give me data for the 2-word keyword phrase I entered as the search keyword, and that's the only one I really wanted at that moment. I've never been crazy about it, but lately I've been extremely unhappy with it.
