Newbie Adsense Questions

Hi all,

I've never used Adsense before, but have used various CPA methods. One niche that I think I could do well in doesn't have many products to sell as it is more informational. Would adding Adsense only to this site generate a decent amount of money? Is there any way to estimate how much Google will pay per click? Is there anyway to know what potential ads Google would display on your page(s)?

Thanks!

The best way to get answers to your questions is to just try it out. Go to your adsense account and create some ads and put the code on your site. You can see right away if the ads that are displayed are relevant to your niche or not. And to get an idea how much is an average click you have to test it out for 2 -3 weeks at least. You might have to play around with the colours and ad placements as well to see what works the best for your site.

  • If there are no other opportunities then that should tell you something.

Search keywords in Google. Are there any advertisers? Then look them up in the Google keyword tool.... what is the average cost per click, what is the competition.

Then figure out if from that information you can get people to your site and make money from ads that match those keywords.

What you can do is all that matters. But first you have to know if the opportunity is real.

I suggest you making pages for your desired keywords and when you insert the code of Google ads on this page, you can see ads for that keywords.
Note that most keywords have ads on Google and also you can use Google adwords tool and search your keyword in this tool and see very detailed information about number of searches, competition and average bid for this keyword.
Also if you want to know keywords that can make most money for you, some websites release these keywords monthly and you can buy this list from them to see which keywords have most prices. But before buying these kinds of lists, you should know that all of these keywords are so competitive.

Yup, do a search for your niche keyword and see how many ads come up at the top and on the right. The more the better as this gives you more opportunity to have better adsense ads. Head over to spyfu and type your keyword in and you can get a feel for what the average cpc is as well.

  • Review your adsense daily report closely you will get your answers. Do not buy highest paid keywords list because there are way too many useless lists in the market. You can rather use Google AdWords tool to learn about the bid value for each keyword.

You can check out sites such as Spyfu.com or even just use the Google Keyword Tool to get an estimate of how much advertisers are paying for ads on the search netword. The content network is still only a percentage of this but anything over $2 CPC should give you a reasonable amount for an AdSense click.

The other thing you have to make sure of is your potential traffic. Make sure you have enough keywords for the site to get a decent amount of visitors. You must be able to get to at least top 5 to get a decent amount of traffic so these keywords must have weak competition.

5% is a good expected click through rate but you can quite easily get this over 10%. You can use this with your expected traffic and CPC to see if the niche is worth attacking.

Perfect, so anything over $2 will normally yield results? In other words avoid those with less than $2?

I'm also trying to figure out potential revenue and was hoping someone could tell me if I am correct. Let's say I found a niche that has 3,000 exact searches per month, or 100 per day. Let's say I rank #3, i'm guessing I can expect about 25 visitors per day. If the CTR is about 10% that mean 2.5 (we'll say 3 clicks per day).

I have heard that a good estimation of revenue is 20% of the CPC. So if I have a $2 CPC, I can estimate a value of $0.40 per click.

Therefore, would my expectation by $1.20 per day for this website through Adsense?

Sorry if this sounds really stupid, I just want to make sure I do my analysis properly !

      Thanks All!

That's the right type of thinking and anaylsis! You might be suprised at the amount of people who don't get it.

I also expect about a $0.50c/click for a $2 bid so those numbers seem pretty good too.

If you can pick keywords that get to number 1 in Google you can make the stats look a whole lot more promising.
