I started searching for good keywords for my site. I found some good ones on market samurai so i went to the google keyword tool just to make sure that the number of searches is about the same. But what happend is that the number of searches were completely different:

Keyword 1: 2433/day on MS ; 1300/month on GKT
keywrod 2: 595/day on MS ; 880/month on GKT
keyword 3: 595/day on MS ; 880/month on GKT

All these results are from Exact Match. I know that no one can know for sure how many searches are done, but it would be expect for the results to be closer.

Anyone knows why this happened?

Google has always been.. less precise but the consistency now is bad at best.

Different data centers could be pulling the data from different months too and the cache could influence the numbers too. Also note, Market Samurai is displaying keyword searches daily vs. Google showing monthly. But your numbers make me think you could have Global vs. US settings somewhere.

I believe it's because MS pulls data from the "old/legacy" google keywords tool while you've been using the "newer" adwords keywords tool which I think is more precise. They recently made a change a few days ago where they made the new google tool much more accurate ( in my experience) which resulted in much lower search results for many keywords because I think they found a way to remove automated search queries and other similar stuff.

Hopefully MS updates soon to use the newer adwords KW tool

    I'm experiencing exactly the same!
MS shows 2-3 times more daily searched when on broad, and about 1.5 times more when on exact

(i've set both to all countries, and dividing the google number by 30 to find the searches for a day)

Natlex, do you know that from MS or is a suggestion of yours?

If you want the real search volume data than you need to run an adwords campaign for a week targeting your specific keyword and then multiply your impression count by 4.

That will give you the best and most accurate search volume in Google for your keyword phrase...

You can go with Google Adword Keyword Tool, i know that this tool also shows expect search volume on particular keyword not exact but you also consider that most of the webmasters using this keyword tool for own project and they also got success to get higher ranking in SERPs.

Natlex is spot on. It seems that MS is still using the old keyword tool and Google has recently made changes to the search tool, which has meant a drastic reduction in numbers. I've had to change course with a couple of sites because of this, but it does appear that Google's updated tool is more accurate, at least from my the stats I'm getting.

Same, which is why I'm using it for now. I'm sure most of the keyword programs will be updated to use the new tool but for now I double check all my keywords with the new tool after finding them because sometimes their not that much lower but on some KW the searc count are DRASTICALLY (like 60-75%) lower (and their both "exact").
