Page Ranke Contest: Don't Be Fooled!

hi folks

just want to ask a question, especially to the SEO EXPERTS!

WHICH DO YOU THINK IS BETTER TO BE RANKED IN PAGE #1 on google OR to be ranked from the middle of the page, say #5-10.

my take

i think ranking from the middle down have a better click through rate compared to being on the first spot #1.

REASON?

well i want to believe that for every visitor that comes to google page, their eyes are instantly fixed on the middle of the page then downward.

thats my take anyway,

what do you think? your suggestion and opinion is very much valued here!

    30% of people who use search engines type in their request, and if they do not see what they want above-the-fold (in the screen without scrolling), they will type in a new search term...

    So I believe it is better to be in the top3 results, for this reason...

    Another 40% will scroll, but not go to page two... So if you cannot be top3, be in the top10, so that you can have a chance to get the click...

    p.s. PageRank is not a factor in your rankings... When I first saw this thread, I thought you were going to talk about Google's PageRank system...

      sorry pal i wasn't actually talking about page ranking i just wanted the headlines to be an attraction... so does this means trying to be on page #1 is worth the effort in terms of conversion. i mean if studies have revealed that visitors are more likely to see you from the #5-#10 to you being in no1?

      but all the same i appreciate your comment. please keep it coming!

        Well, if you exclude the p.s., my comments were about the number of people who see your ad in the first three spots, versus 4-10 spots, and the following page...

        I don't think the research supports 4-10 being better than #1 at all... According to all of the tracking reports I have seen, there is no way to conclude that 4-10 will get more traffic than 1-3.

        Your question to conversion is a totally different issue... Do you get more clicks, or do you get more conversion on 4-10... That is a different measure and harder to quantify...

        The question also as to whether it is worth it to spend more money for #1 is also up in the air, and depends more on how your website is presented in Google...

        You can have 1-3 ranking, and if your page title and description is written badly, then you will get no clicks...

        Spending the extra money to rank 1-3 will not affect how well you have written your ad (title and description of your web page)... A poorly written ad at any location in the SERPs will not attract traffic, no matter how much traffic you throw at it...

        Additionally, I can assure you that there is one term I spent a lot of money to rank for, that NEVER delivered the sales expected to cover the cost of the top placement... And my competitors were paying $5 per click in that niche...

        My ad was good and I did get the traffic, but the conversions were low... The same page coming up in the results on another keyword pulled like crazy and converted to sales more readily... The lesson is that some keywords are not as valuable as we would like to think they are...

        So to answer your overall question, there is not a simple answer to your question...

    Well I personally believe that 50% of the users click on anything in the 1st spot. If they do not find what they were looking for then they see the other results (2-10).

    So concentrate on getting the 1st spot than getting 5-10 positions.
