Help with SEO for Newbie

Hi all,

This is my first post on this section of the forum.

I consider myself to be an IM Newbie and just starting to understand how SEO works at the moment.

I have a question here. I have about 8 keywords which are in Page number 1 of google. They range from Pos 1 - 9 of the first page. Now all these keywords are phrase matches as well. In the Google Keyword tool, there is a total search volume of about 2000 for all these keywords.

I've been in these keyword positions for about a month now, but have had no traffic come in from Google organic searches at all. Even one of the keywords I have which is position number 1 with a monthly search volume of about 200 has had no clicks.

Can anyone shed some light to this? I'm trying to focus on these keywords which have relatively a smaller search volume(100 - 700 searches per month each) first before I go and tackle the bigger keywords which have a bigger search volume of about 3000 each for their keywords.
Does it have something to do me focusing on phrase match instead of broad match for the keywords?

Looking forward to your responses!

Thanks

i personally use the exact match to see potential daily clicks. Broad match is well, too broad, and if your onpage seo is done right, the the exact keyword match is what you are after anyway.

Also, 700 searches is very low, and remember there are no 100% accurate KW tools. They are just guidelines. maybe check again in a week or so.

Use Google Webmasters. That will give you insights on how many times that keyword has been searched worldwide as well as country wise. I doubt that either the keyword you are targeting is not having good search volume or the country is different.

Google Webmasters will definitely help you on it. Also, use Google sktool. That provides more accurate data then Google keyword tool.

always go for the exact match for specifics. Also don't be afraid to start building your links to your other long tail phrases that have a higher search volume.

phrase and broad can be misleading and you might have minimal exact searches on your terms
