Building a list is important

Hey there. I have a question about list building.
After reading so many threads and posts that building a list is very important I started to write my first ebook and I will release it soon. So I thought I'll give it away for free but to provide it useful for myself build a list.

So what do you think of this idea and what are the best possibilities you can offer for my project. Best would be some free services or software cause I am not able to spend much money ...

    In almost every niche I have properties in the backend of my business ( my list ) make me many times more money than the front end of each business ( on website sales )

    Again this depends on a lot of factors, but your list is gold if handled properly, Once you have some money or even before, learn what you can from Frank Kern....

    yea that's my intention. It will be about a hot topic right now and will provide useful tips etc. My problem is that I'm not quite sure HOW to start the listbuilding. Do I need software or how can I cover all the information?
