Why is Google toolbar PageRank update so late?

Hey everyone!

I can't figure out why the last PR update was April 3,2010. We launched a site since then and have been reading about PR update predictions since July. It's now well into September... There's supposed to be 3-4 updates per year.

Before you tell me that PR doesn't matter and that there are other more important ranking factors... I know this, but I need the update anyway.

Our blog is largely fueled by guest posts and it's far easier to get quality submissions when a site has a good PR on the home page.

Any ideas why it's been so long?

I came to know via some other site in the past google updated toolbar pagerank after 6 months. This may happen again in 2010. There will be only 3 updates this year. There's much chance in October 2010 Google will update toolbar pagerank.

I've read of some people who said there was a minor PR update in July. I didn't notice any change, and (if any PR did update) it does definitely seem to have been a minor one.

But yeah, I get the feeling the next one will be October now. Quite annoying since April-October is a fairly long wait.

There was a very minor PR update a few weeks ago. All of my PR n/a sites went up to PR0. A few people reported their sites going from PR2 to PR3. I think I saw one person claim their PR4 site went to PR5. Most people didn't see anything out of it though.

Actually new sites and pages go from pr n/a to a pr0 all the time, you don't need an update for that to occur

as for other sites going from a 3 to a 4 or whatever a few weeks ago, to be honest it's all hearsay and propaganda

It seems there has been a sudden increase in link networks which allows a person to post an article which then gets posted on number of blogs which are part of that network. It is a well known fact that PR is outdated and not an accurate representation of your SEO efforts. It takes times to get an updated pagerank after initial pagerank. For my site I had got it after 3 months. It didn't changed afterwards Its been a year now.Quality High PR Backlinks affects pagerank positively.

Goggle keeps updating the PageRank option quite often. It definitely requires managing the updating process. I always lose ranking of my site because of unexpected update.

That is the issue coming up with many people, google has given PR updates pretty late this time. But yeah, they don't matter so why not continue the good work, and be sure to get a + page rank!

What's crazy is; I launched a site back in May. No PR rank update since.. but the Twitter profile I had associated with it has a pagerank of 3 now, and I didn't even make that Twitter account til months later.

Pagerank is what makes google google. They may modify it, but never get rid of it

PageRank is pretty funny in that webmaster or website owners obsess over it and put tremendous value on its importance.

On the other hand, Google's always trying to play down the importance of PageRank, by saying it's only one of 200 indicators or stuff like that.

They even dumped the PageRank from Google Webmaster tools too.

Is Google that oblivious to the fact that they've created something that's looked at as a valuable piece of information?

It's now Nov 20, 2010 and still no PageRank update.

Google, we want our PageRank and we want it NOW! :-)

Within my niche (mommy blogs!) the lack of PR updating is causing a lot of ruckus. Some companies only base whether or not they'll work with a blogger if they have a page rank of (x) and up. It's a bit ridiculous.
One blogger I know has thousands of subscribers and twitter followers and facebook fans, but the company won't work with her because her PR is 0.

What they refuse to take into account that she did have a PR of 4 before she switched from blogger to wordpress.

It's an overrated ranking system, but companies rely on it unfortunately.

But they could remove the Google Toolbar Page Rank and do themselves a huge favor in people selling and buying links.

The Page Rank algo is essentially changing every time a new page is added or removed in the index, so that snapshot isn't really worth anything.

Thats if the site is correct which I can't see how they know a date, if there is no update then I guess G is phasing it out altogether. But why patent Page Rank if they were going to do that?

No one can predict when Google Update PR. I understand why you care PR much. If you are looking for a way to convince your guest writers, show them your real time traffic details. It can satisfy most of the writers.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made some change to their algorithm that messed up pagerank somehow. So they postponed it until they could figure out what the problem or issue is. I would expect that if this is the case they should have it resolved and at or around 6 months later we will be seeing an update. I really have no idea, just a hunch that we will see an update sometime in october. Hopefully first 1/2 of the month.

I am coming round to this opinion as well. There was a major algorithm update (Mayday update) that may also have involved internal PageRanks. They then found that to export the current internal PageRanks would be too controversial and open them to ridicule e.g. there was one previous update when MSN was left with a PR of 2.

Well it has the critical process of crawling the site and ranking. In some case PR does not matter. The important thing is the traffic and conversions. Concentrate your efforts to get the real traffic and real customers. You do not have PR5. It means nothing set up the computer system of scoring for a company. Most people outside of the web marketing you do not understand what it is and have no meaning to it.

Hm, I have a number of sites and not one domain or internal page has changed. I've heard that there might be an update around New Year's though. Hopefully! Google usually has 3 major updates per year or so historically, but this year has only had one in April and a minor update 2 months later. There might have been one before April, but I can't recall.

Google's PR is updating constantly, they only run the cron job a couple times a year to push it out. Which is what you see when you check the PR value. But your PR is constantly being updated in Googles servers and really as long as your continuing to build links and publish fresh content, you don't have to worry about it.

That is unless your trying to sell links or advertising space or even buy links, in which case you would of course pay more attention to it.
