Where to put blog?

Hi there,

Newbie here so sorry for my complete ignorance and lack of know how..

I am setting up a blog to promote my site and was wondering whether it is better to put it on my site, e.g. www dot mysite dot com/blog or put it onto wordpress etc.

I want my site to get credit for the content on the blog, but think that a wordpress blog would get crawled more.

Any ideas and tips as to make this work best?

    Free Wordpress blogs don't let you monetize. If you get cuaght with ads or links, they delete your blog.

    Blogger is a good option, but you are always open to the risk of getting it deleted by Google for some reason, or no reason if they decide to delete it.

    I recommend registering your own domain name either thro GoDaddy or Namecheap and then hosting with Hostagator.

    ~$10 for the domain and 5 or so a month for hosting though.

    If you don't want to dish the cash yet, start it on blogger and see how it goes. If it's going well, get your own domain and hosting and then use the Blogger site as a feeder to drive traffic.

      I would recommend Blogger because it's free and you'll be able to monetize your site with adsense and whatever affiliate links that you would like to use.

    If you are already paying for the hosting, etc. Just add it as you have noted.

    Why don't you just buy a new domain and add it to your hosting? That would be a good option.

    Definitely add it to yoursite.com/blog. Many webmasters set up their sites this way.

      Thanks for all the responses.

      I think it may be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

      If I put the blog on my site (mysite.com/blog) I have complete control re adds, and my site gets credit for the content.

      However if I put a blog on an existing blog site, blogger, wordpress etc it comes with seo built in and I can get links for my site.

      The main purpose of the blog is to get traffic to my site, not for ads, I would be worried that if I put a blog on my site it would be pointless as no one would see it..

      Am I missing something here?
