local search help needed

Hello,
Can anybody be of help in directing me to a helpful pdf or other tutorial for finding locally searched terms, low or high does'nt matter.
I have tried the adwords tool but can't seem to get it to do what I want.
Previous versions seemed to have a synonym option but the current one does not.
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

    The thing about using the local search for local keywords unless you have a big city or something that is very popular it can be hard to gauge. I know what you mean though,

    depending on what exactly you are doing, I use terms like doctor city name, state abv. most of time google and yahoo will know what city and/or state it is, so you won't have to.

    also if you are looking for hot niches locally that get searched freq. type
    doctor city name, state abv and then click on the top 10-20 sites and see what they have in the source code or just their title tags/keywords...this way you can see what else that industry is trying to rank for based or should i say , presuming they understand seo or the person who did, knew what to put as the related title tags and keywords.

      Hey sweet spot, thanks for the reply. Got to thinking after I made that post about reverse engineering via the source code as well. Glad you responded. Hopefully somebody else knows of a more automated way and will reply.

    Oh here is another idea bake...
    Start searching something that you have a total interest in marketing for, maybe doctors or dentist or whatever, and then type in your city and state, and see on there is advertising with adwords, if you happen to see local advertisers, like local small or large businesses, that means then need help, they need business. That is where you write all the local companies, call them up and tell them you noticed they were advertising and see how it was going...I think you can come up with a better pitch, but I think you get the idea. Sorry I am in the middle of something, but it came to me and I wanted to tell you how you can get some ideas on marketing or at least finding companies that are already advertising.

    Then go to google keyword tools and find out how is the search volume for that keyword. Will be back with another idea.
